Looking for someone who was at the Adelaide Town Hall welcoming 'The Beatles' in June 1964.
I would like to interview them for the Adelaide Music Explorer Trail which is being developed by National Trust of South Australia, Music SA and the Music Development Office. It will be launched in February as part of the Fringe's Frusic program.

One hundred years ago today the words 'Anzac Day' were used for the first time. For the year 1915 South Australia's Eight Hour Day Celebrations were renamed 'Anzac Day'. The name had been suggested by a Prospect draper, Robert Wheeler. All money raised was donated to the Wounded Soldiers Fund. The word 'Anzac' was only just starting to be commonly used.

The day began with a procession that included injured veterans back home from Egypt and Gallipoli and 5000 new AIF recruits. But as the main goal was to raise funds and attract a large crowd there were also a lot of entertaining activities at Adelaide Oval after the procession. Up to 20,000 people attended those activities at the oval.

Although this is not the ANZAC Day we know today it did have a number of elements that are still a part of our current commemoration.

"ANZAC Day is a binary of death and sacrifice, and a celebration of life and survival"
Dr. Janice Pavils.

There are only a handful of tickets available for tonight's free forum and film screening. https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/first-anzac-day-tickets-18709352176 #historysa #thefirstanzacday #ANZAC #Australianhistory

Finishing up 'From Farms to Suburbia - A short History of Prospect'. This documentary has been made in collaboration with Prospect Local History Group, South Australia. Part of my work involved documenting many archival photos, this one of the Parker Store was taken around 1900. There are still a number of shops on Prospect Road today dating from the 1800's, but the are a dying breed. #southaustralia #localhistory #australianhistory #shops #grocery #draper #oldshops

The book "Edge of Time: Greg Johns sculptures 1977--2015" is being launched today at 3pm at BMG Art Gallery Adelaide. It was written by John Neylon, one of Australia's foremost writers on sculpture and art.

My photographs are featured throughout the book and that's one of mine on the cover, taken at the #palmersculpturelandscape .

This morning I was recording some clapping sticks, singing and didge at Kura Yerlo to use in the soundtrack for an Aged Rights Advocacy Service (ARAS) film. I'd put my gear away when I was prompted to ask if anyone could play guitar. I thought I just needed a bit more.

Lo and behold, Ross Karpany took centre stage. He lead off with a ripper medley that began with Folsom Prison Blues. As good as it was I suggested that a prison song might not be appropriate for this film. Ross then treated us to his own wonderful composition "Hands Around the World".
A special morning. #southaustralia #aboriginalmusic

Making a film with ARAS (Aged Rights Advocacy Service) for the older members of our community on positive living and ways to minimise risk. As part of this I had the privilege of filming at the Tauondi College reconciliation event today.

An open invitation to anyone who is in Adelaide tomorrow 28 May 2015. Commencing at 10.30am an Aboriginal Veterans Commemorative Service will be held at the ATSI War Memorial, Torrens Parade Ground. No RSVP needed.
This memorial is the first official memorial created to honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders who served Australia as far back as the Boer War. A shame it took until 2013, but thankfully it happened.
