My biography in 3rd person
Stanley Martin is the founder and program manager of the Empower to Succeed Network, (ETSN). The goal in creating ETSN was to create a channel where resources, information and business opportunities could flow in the communities. The focus is on providing resources to underserved and disadvantaged communities and individuals.
Stanley was born on the south side of Chicago where living was challenging and overbearing in the neighborhood. He struggled daily with trying to discover what he wanted to do with his life. In his community, life choices were very few and commonly centered around fast food services, warehouse, or manual labor. “I just knew that I wanted my life to make a difference somehow. I founded The Empower to Succeed Network, (ETSN) in 2003 after my job ended and I was unemployed (Stanley Martin founder and CEO of ETSN, 5/2011).” In searching for new job opportunities, he gathered plenty of valuable resources and information that personally did not fit his goals but could benefit other people. And, this is when he decided to start his own resource and job fairs. In addition, he began a job support group at his neighboring church where participants were able to share job leads and resources and exchange employment information!
“I enjoy what I do and I like to see people’s lives change for the better as a result of having access to something they were not aware of before. I am also a husband and loving father. I draw my strength to continue what I do from my wife Charleen who keeps me balanced and focused, and is always honest with me. I also think it is important for my son to see me helping others, it shows him that life is more important than just what you can get out of it (Stanley Martin, 5/2011).”
When Stanley is not hosting or facilitating events and meetings, he loves to watch sports and movies. “I also enjoy singing in my car, Star Trek and Cubs Baseball. My faith is a very important part of my life and my goal is to see people improve their quality of life and in turn help someone else improve theirs (Stanley Martin, 5/2011).”
