The Google+ Split Up: By +Mark Traphagen on +LinkedIn

I actually said something about how Google needs to up their marketing game. I'm glad I saw this in Mark's comments.

"Here are my thoughts on the changes. Take them for what they're worth from someone who has closely observed G+ since its first day.

Social Fizzle

The social side of G+ never took off because while Google is great at technology they suck at marketing, including market placement of their products. G+ should have been marketed from the beginning as a place to set out on a new adventure with people you don't already know who share your interests, not "hey look....another Facebook!""
Today Google announced that Dave Besbris would be stepping away from his role of head of Google+ (which he assumed when G+ founding father Vic Gundotra left last spring). Besbris is being replaced by long-time Googler Bradley Horowitz, who was seen as Gundotra's real righthand man in the early days of Google+.Furthermore, Horowitz confirmed that Google plans to split off Hangouts and Photos as their own products separate from Google+. Horowitz wi...

New Beginnings at Google+

Some are saying that this means the beginning of the end. Is it? What do you think is going to happen?

"Google Plus might be dead, as ‘Streams’ and ‘Photos’ take its place"

Google is splitting its social network apart, breaking it into “Photos” and “Streams” and leaving the fate of the often mocked Google+ service hanging in the balance.

The two new features will be run by Bradley Horowitz, he announced on Google+ this morning. He did not mention Google+, or the more popular Hangouts chat service.

Photos and Streams are likely an attempt by Google to take the more popular and successful services that are integrated within Google+ — such as its photo editing tools and its integration with other software — and ditch the Google+ branding. The service was launched in 2011, but has struggled to find regular users with many mocking the service for remaining largely dormant.

Just wanted to confirm that the rumors are true -- I’m excited to be running Google’s Photos and Streams products!  It’s important to me that these changes are properly understood to be positive improvements to both our products and how they reach users.

Well it will be interesting for sure. I jumped on G+ right away to secure my name like any other place I can and liked it right away. I was disappointed they took away some of the cool features a couple years ago with editing photos because I am not a photographer but use only my photos on my website. But like any other platform, it changes sometimes for the good and sometimes not. I have a totally different group of people I connect with here as opposed to other SM platforms. I use the hangouts a lot, so I'm hoping that whatever they do, it still works so easily on my phone as on my computer!!!  I'm open for change and will be looking to all of you for help if it changes too fast for me!!  ;-)

More Change at Google

I wish you could share notes made from another person sharing. In this case, I want to share comments made in the link below.

Maybe this is why Google+ has felt stale for a while. It needs a breath of fresh air. Perhaps this will be the start of something worthwhile for us all.

Thanks +Stacy Sanchez! I wish we could reference a share and it's value-add also without cutting and pasting or having to add the link to the share. The way things are moving I don't see that coming any time soon.

Avalanche Ranch

It was a rare treat for us to slip away a few weeks ago. We are usually slammed with flower orders, but since selling +Petal and Bean we were able to enjoy the time for ourselves. We explored a new hot springs in the Roaring Fork Valley.

Someone told me that they only added the springs about 5 or 6 years ago. We had planned on bringing skis, but opted to just walk around instead.

Here is a short video I made from last Fall on Kebler Pass, this place is located just outside of Crested Butte, Colorado. I could not have time this trip any better for catching the Fall colors at there peak, what a great place to get away from it all. http://mjbauerphotography.net

Everything Changes

I saw a blog post that summarized the words of the Buddha in two words. Everything changes.

Man, was the Buddha right! From new proposed summer activities, to domain hosts, to home projects, and to pets passing away. The biggest one was our selling of the retail flower shop. Lately, the talk around town is new adventure activities that involve zip lines and canopy tours at the ski area.

Having recurring issues with one hosting service prompted my moving of several sites to a smaller, boutique type of hosting company. Improvements around the house have taken longer than expected, trying to work with contractors on our small job, and finding leaks and other unexpected issues.

One that keeps hitting me deep is the passing of my cat. I can't believe how much I look around the house and miss him. Once we settle in for the year, we are considering adopting a rescue cat.

This town is not the town I arrived in almost twenty years ago. That's ok. I'm not the same guy either. Everything changes.

I've heard them talk about this idea in FL for years. I'll be surprised if it ever happens.

Flowery Dreams

Some of my thoughts are of the past. Some are of future adventures. Both include flowers as part of the landscape.

The cold weather and snow has returned to the mountains. The garden patiently sleeps until the mountains feel the warmth of late Spring.

You see, the growing season starts very late, when compared to other locations. The flowers at 10,000 feet sleep a little bit longer. But, I'd like to think that they bloom just a tad brighter because of that.

I reworked an older photo to get this image.

I live in Breckenridge, Colorado and love to take photos and interact via new media.  I like to ski, hike, run, paddle and explore the mountains any chance I get.

I started out working three jobs just to live where I wanted to be.  I've worked as a ski / snowboard instructor, bar doorman, spa / healthclub, snowmaker, town rec center, snowmobile guide, lifeguard, climbing wall guy, nordic center, and outdoor educator.

Then, I met my wife and became a small business entrepreneur.  I have been progressive in identifying the niche needs in particular markets and industries.

I have many ideas for my field of work and hope to use technology to save people time, money, and have a great experience solving their problems and meeting their needs.

Join me in my journey to learn best practices, the latest technology, and how to market effectively.  I have just created an online resource and wedding blog for our local mountain area
