Hi Everyone!!! Hey, wanted to share this you- GWAEA is doing a "Week of Making" this summer and have a couple different opportunities for folks to learn and experience makerspace and how it can tie to the curriculum and teaching and learning! We have Krissy Vensdale coming too! WOO HOO!

If you are able to come over and share your experiences we are looking for sessions too! There is a 2-day conference and then we are going to have a 3-day hands-on deep dive workshops with a smaller number of participants. Take a look, pass it on and let me know if you have questions!

The ITEC student tech fair inital sign up is now open! If you have students with some great projects to share ITEC has two fairs each spring. There is also a need for judges for the fair if you want to scope it out before bringing students this is a great opportunity or if you know of anyone in the community who could judge :)
Eastern Fair – Tuesday, May 2, 2017 – Coralville
Central Fair – Friday, May 5, 2017 – Ames

Thanks to +Mindy Cairney for the share! I'm an extension junkie and this one is going on my list! You can share a video with a back channel, provide quiz questions and give feedback. I like it a lot!

Good Monday Morning! I learned about this extension last night and thought I'd share... if you have a bunch of photos in a folder this extension will create a slide deck with each photo on a slide! I could be this being super handy in classrooms. No more FILE->INSERT IMAGE over and over and over again!

Any secondary teachers out there interested in coding? Code.org has a great opportunity for teachers and will pay for you to attend the PD this summer (pretty sure it is in Texas) to learn about the program! There is an application process. Here is the information we received:

Hello!

Thank you for helping promote computer science in Iowa! We have been working to get the word out about Code.org's Professional Learning Program https://code.org/educate for middle and high school computer science, and we are excited to offer this opportunity to teachers in Iowa to help expand computer science in our schools.

Applications are now open and will be reviewed on a rolling basis until March 17, 2017. For more information and to apply, teachers can visit the CS Discoveries and CS Principles pages.

A direct link to the application page for CS Discoveries (grades 7-9) can be found here: https://code.org/educate/professional-learning/cs-discoveries

A direct link to the application page for CS Principles (grades 9-12) can be found here: https://code.org/educate/professional-learning/cs-principles-apply

Please pass this information along to interested teachers and administrators wanting to add or expand their computer science offerings. Any questions can be directed to me.

Sincerely,

Samantha Dahlby
K-12 Education Coordinator, NewBoCo
