Great article:

The new and the old technology at the Texas Talking Book Program Studio. That reel-to-reel antique found its way into our booth this week. Ah, the memories!

And finally, the Christmas 2013 album. Enjoy!

The weather turned on the day I was planning to put up the sculptures. So the deer, sleighs, snowmen, arches, nutcracker and drums all stayed in their boxes and probably took a cruise. But it turned out nicely anyway!

Great job Ags! Defense needs some work before the final gamut of games, but still. Gig 'Em! (photo courtesy of Texas A&M page on FB).

What is it they say? If you don't like the weather in Texas, just give it a few minutes. Thunderstorm blew through on about 10 minutes, leaving us with rain, sunset and a faint rainbow!

I was once in Dallas years back and we found every day at about 4 pm, the sky would go from blue and sunny to dark and stormy, and some of the worst lightning storms I'd ever seen in all directions. An hour later, back to blue. Freaky. The locals didn't even pay attention..

Our hometown boy does good....again. This was such a great day for us.
Chip Woolley had apprehensions. The Dalhart-born horse trainer has dealt with nerves before, naturally, particularly when a horse he trained came out of nowhere and won the Kentucky Derby in 2009.

Very Nice
Each of the woodcut images seem simultaneously familiar and strange. It is easy to imagine them as a lost esoteric version of the Marseilles deck from the 15th century. But then there is a disconcerting modernity to them, a graphic frankness mixed with a transgressive sense of humor.

This was one of the most wonderful books I had the pleasure of narrating. To know it will be available for patrons nationwide is so fulfilling.

(From our recent newsletter)

"Same Kind of Different As Me by Ron Hall, narrated by Staci Thompson and monitored by Kerry Pivonka, received top reviews from the National Library Service (NLS). Studio Manager Miles Lewis submitted the book for the NLS “local books on BARD pilot project.”

BARD is the Braille and Audio Reading Download service. The pilot project will lead to local books being available for download nationally.

Yesterday, the Texas Department of Agriculture held its annual Family Land Heritage ceremony, which honors Texas families whose land has been in continuous agricultural production for 100+years. There were about 15 150-year recipients, and over 100 families receiving their 100-year award. My Daddy and aunt accepted the award for the Finch Family Ranch.

It was really amazing to see all these people who are part of families who have worked the land for a century or more. Quite the day.

(And on a tech note, this was at max zoom on the iPhone, and I'm pretty impressed with the clarity)

If I could be anyone in the world, I would be Santa Claus.
I'm a Texan born and raised, and very proud of it. I spend my time wondering why the world works like it does, and why people do what they do. And I play pool, read a lot, narrate books on tape for the blind and physically handicapped and watch a lot of sports - especially American football.

I post a lot of articles about urban decay, videos of 80s hairbands and images of a rather macabre nature, plus information I just find interesting. So stop by and say hello - it's nice to meet you.
