Today, EFF launched a new campaign against software patents (https://defendinnovation.org).  In this campaign, we outline seven proposals that we think will address some of the greatest abuses of the current software patent system, including making sure that folks who independently arrived at an invention can’t be held liable for infringing on a software patent. But our campaign isn't just about our proposals — we also want to hear, and amplify, the views of the technical community.  Many engineers, researchers, and entrepreneurs have suggested that reform is not enough and that software should not be patentable, period. We want to record these views, which is why our Defend Innovation campaign is designed to solicit comments from all of the stakeholders.

Where one sees Fragmentation from the Developer perspective, the other might see Choice from the Consumer perspective. The positives as I see it

1) Device manufacturers are free to unleash their creativity. "Let a thousand flowers bloom"

2) The mechanisms that Android develops to cater to this Diversity will stand it in good stead in the future.

The unanticipated faux pas (if you will) with the Android ecosystem, is that they did not leave "enough on the table" for devices manufacturers. With the hardware feature-set increasingly becoming commoditized, the device manufacturers could only compete on price. They resorted to having custom skins, separate marketplaces etc.

I don't know how the revenue-share works. Or even if there is one. Maybe Google could try increased revenue-share based on the device manufacturer's support of latest OS versions. Note: There will always be cases where the device cannot be upgraded for physical/performance reasons.

As Apple and Google gear up for WWDC and Google I/O, developers show their support for Apple. Flurry shares analysis revealing why this is the case.

Left Rainwater Tank stranded because short of time, promised to come back & then reneged quoting no "clear access". Delivery is an important aspect of the purchase decision. I certainly didn't know that I was signing up for a "fly-by-night" "halfway-tank" place. #fail
