Animal of the Day!

Common Name: Chain Moray Eel
Scientific Name: Echidna catenata

Today's animal is a bit of a more rare eel that can be seen in our coastal waters, ranging from 1 to 2 feet in length. Chain Moral Eels can be found in depths up to 40 feet, so keep an eye out for them at our local shallow reefs!

Fun Fact: Unlike other types of eels, moray eels have two sets of sharp teeth. The first set is located on the jaw while the other is within their throat. The teeth in the throat are used to help break up food for facilitated digestion.

Animal of the Day!

Common Name: Shortfin Pipefish
Scientific Name: Cosmocampus elucens

Shortfin Pipefish, similar to seahorses, are very tiny (3 to 5 inches), but incredibly exciting if you can spot one! These pipefish are more common in the shallower seagrass beds, but also can be found in mixed algal beds. These pipefish have been seen locally, especially at Blue Heron Bridge.
Fun Fact: The male Shortfin Pipefish carries the eggs in a broad pouch underneath it's tail.

Love watching #SharkWeek ? Try to be apart of it!

http://ow.ly/Pett2
**Placencia, Belize** Drawn by schools of spawning snapper, whale sharks show up like clockwork at Belize’s Gladden Spit between the months of March and June. This experience is open to both divers and snorkelers, as whale-shark sightings near the surface are common when the animals surface to feed. The best days for whale-shark encounters of the Placencia coast are around the full moon each month of the season, when the spawning action reaches ...

SharksCount engages divers as ‘citizen scientists’ for sharks. We empower divers to count and identify the sharks that they see on their recreational dives. SharksCount provides the tools to log and share shark sightings with us for conservation purposes.

Check out these beautiful wrecks!
It’s a dive you do your homework for: U.S.S. _Spiegel Grove_ is a 2002-sunk landing ship six miles off the Key Largo coast on the current-prone Dixie Shoal. As the Middle Keys’ largest artificial reef at 510 feet long, it’s popular — which means that the mooring ball you start from is as unpredictable as the currents. Also, most local dive operators don’t put guides in the water with customers. Study a map of the vessel, which will also help you ...

Animal of the Day!

Common Name: Caribbean Reef Shark
Scientific Name: Carcharhinus perezii

Caribbean Reef Sharks can be identified as a shark between 5-10 feet mature, with a long gray body and short blunt snout. These sharks are distinctive due to the slightly darker marking on their fins, and slightly larger gill slits than other shark. Unfortuantely this shark is a popular commercial fish for its liver oil and meat.
Fun Fact: A Caribbean Reef Shark was seen last weekend at the wreck "Hog Heaven"! Come join us next time!

I purchased a groupon with this merchant and after trying to schedule a dive, the voucher expired. I spoke to the manager and he was not only rude and did not wand to redeem my voucher, he told me that the amount of money the voucher was for, could not be used towards any other class, which is against groupon's terms and conditions, and that if I wanted to buy something, it would be on items he was willing to sell me for the money. Remember that this is credit I have and he wants me to spend it how we wants. Very very very bad experience and he was extremely rude. Will NEVER dive with them and I am taking legal action towards their violation of groupon. If you cannot adhere to terms and conditions, dont do business.

I usually don't do reviews, but wanted to express gratitude and thanks to the staff members at Squalo Divers. All members have a nice persoanlity and make you feel welcome at their shop, they'll take the time to help you with questions, concerns about scuba diving and equipment that is best suited to your needs. I'm new to Scuba, so was nervous and clumsy. Lilli my instructor was very nice and caring. She was always there to help me whenever I was having a difficult time. Squalo divers is a really good place if you want to learn about scuba diving.

Sebastian, Andy and Cristina @ Squalo Divers, thank you very much for an unforgettable experience! They are very knowledgeable and always happy to answer your questions. They are very friendly and treat you more like a friend rather than a customer. During our Open Water Certification our instructor Andy always made sure we felt comfortable in whatever we were doing and the reason why we were doing it. Thank you for making class fun and for sharing your knowledge Andy!

I purchased this Groupon and have made numerous attempts to redeem it at the shop. The first time we entered the shop the owner was extremely rude and demanded that we purchase our SCUBA equipment from him before we could start training. We did not. After ordering the SCUBA equipment and going to the shop a second time we were advised that we could not take the class because there were no openings available for the next month. I explained that our intention was to take the class for certification prior to a scheduled vacation. However they could not accomodate us. Despite this they refused to refund our money and charged us anyway for the tax on the Groupon. I have had a very negative experience with this merchant and with merchants associated with Groupon in general to the point that I believe this will be my last time interacting with your company. I am finding that the ultimate hassle and inconvenience in dealing with Groupon vendors far outweighs the savings.
