SPS Chapter Research Awards deadline for proposals - November 15, 2016.
The Lamar University chapter used their Award to purchase low-cost optics equipment in order to (1) generate a Hertzsprung-Russell diagram for the 24 brightest stars visible in Beaumont, (2) analyze the polarization of stellar and solar light and the effect a telescope's optics have on these measurements, and (3) analyze the absorption spectrum due to Earth’s atmosphere on the Sun’s blackbody radiation spectrum. http://ow.ly/gV8W304BZcV

Marsh W. White Awards proposals are due November 15. Awards up to $500 are made to #SPS chapters to support projects designed to promote interest in physics among students and the general public. The #SPS chapter of Cleveland State University (CSU) organized and conducted a physics outreach program for students in the YMCA after school care at the Campus International School—a public K-6 school in downtown Cleveland. Check out CSU's 2015 report! http://ow.ly/pRF0304BWeH

Future Faces of Physics Chapters not only promote physics across cultures, but can also strengthen chapters that apply! “It isn’t always easy to get our students involved but I really think that this project is the start to a really great chapter of #SPS. This project also helped a lot of our members get closer, it was not an event for one person to single-handedly put on. It required teamwork!” –University of the Sciences Future Faces of Physics report 2015-16.
#SPS National offers $500 grants to chapters for activities that promote the recruitment and retention of groups historically underrepresented in physics through our Future Faces of Physics Award. http://ow.ly/EzpO304oBC9
