Very sad news announced as the male Orca, J34, also known as DoubleStuf, has been found dead in the waters off Vancouver Island. Preliminary cause of death is blunt force trauma due to a possible vessel strike.

At 18 years old, DoubleStuf was one of the most identifiable of the Southern Resident Killer Whales, and was seen regularly on our tours throughout the year. As one of only 11 mature males, the loss of DoubleStuf is also devastating news for the future of this endangered SRKW population, now numbering less than 80 individuals.
