Daigo Hanada - Ichiru (2017)

A very discreet musician, Daigo Hanada is a young Tokyo-based pianist and composer sharing his time between his native Japan and Berlin. Apart from two Nils Frahm reworks and a one track contribution (“Again”) to the Piano Cloud Series - Volume One compilation released last year on the 1631 Recordings, Daigo Hanada has spent a lot of time maturing and perfecting his art away from the public eye. But when the first notes of “Silhouette” start playing, there is little doubt that Daigo Hanada is a very talented musician. His full-length solo début album Ichiru was released on 27 February 2017 last on the Montréal-based label Moderna Records.

Girma Bèyènè & Akalé Wubé - Mistakes on Purpose (2017)

Spearheading the prolific and unique surge of Ethiopian popular music in the 1960s and 1970s, Ethiopian singer, arranger and pianist Girma Bèyènè is a legendary figure who enjoyed a scintillating early career with various formations and musicians. The political unrest in his native country forced the musician to emigrate to Washington D.C. in the late 1970s and effectively disappear from the music scene.
On the invitation of young French band Akalé Wubé, Girma Bèyènè returned to the recording studio in 2016 to break a thirty year-long musical silence. Released in January 2017 last on Prado Records/Buda Musique following a successful crowdfunding campaign, Mistakes on Purpose - Ethiopiques 30 witnesses “the rebirth of a legend”.

GoGo Penguin - Man Made Object (2016)

Based in Manchester and boasting a classic jazz trio line-up of piano (Chris Illingworth), bass (Nick Blacka) and drums (Rob Turner), GoGo Penguin never cease to blur the lines and push the genre into new territories. An electrifying band on a live stage, it borrows from the “Wall of Sound” aesthetics of rock music.
At the same time, the trio’s trademark deluge of beats and hypnotic basslines also acknowledges the influence of electronica, drum & bass, IDM and experimental music. Following on from "Fanfares" (2012) and the fantastic "v2.0" in 2014 (both on Gondwana Records), Man Made Object (February 2016) launches the band’s début for the prestigious Blue Note label.
