Bing Reaches 20 Percent Search Market Share Milestone In US.
The slow and steady gains resulting in this months milestone have come mostly at the expense of Search Alliance partner Yahoo. Indeed the two companies have effectively traded places.
Results from comScore
comScore, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCOR), a leader in measuring the digital world, today released its monthly comScore qSearch™ analysis of the U.S. desktop search marketplace. Google Sites led the explicit core search market in March with 64.4 percent of search queries conducted.

Is your site receiving a Mobile Friendly tag?

Google has released a new 'Mobile-friendly' label that will be included within the mobile search results for all sites that qualify for it.

Here is Google's list of site requirements you'll have to meet in order to qualify for their 'Mobile-friendly' tag:
*Avoid software that is not common on mobile devices, like Flash.
*Use text that is readable without zooming.
*Size content to the screen so users don't have to scroll horizontally or zoom.
*Place links far enough apart so that the correct one can be easily tapped.

To find out if your site qualifies for the 'Mobile-friendly' label use Google's new Mobile-Friendly Test. The tool quickly analyzes if the page is mobile friendly and you'll either get a congratulations message or a list of improvements you'll need to make.

Right now this label has already begun rolling out to sites that meet the above requirements without any further work by site owners. So if you aren't seeing the label on your site run it through the above tool to find out why.

Link Building:
For years we webmasters have been told link building is one of the most important tasks to getting your site ranked higher and building your online profile.
However, this week Google's John Mueller said I'd Avoid Link Building In General.
We do use links as part of our algorithm but we use lots and lots of other factors as well. So only focusing on links is probably going to cause more problems for your web site that actually helps.
You really want to make sure that your content kind of stands on its own and make it possible for other people of course to link to your content. Make it easy, maybe, put a little widget on your page, if you like this, this is how you can link to it. Make sure that the URLs on your web site are easy to copy and paste. All of those things make it a little bit easier.#linkbuilding

Search engine optimization is a method of getting your website to rank higher in search engines—such as Google, Yahoo or Bing. A search engine optimization campaign pairs on-site optimization with off-site tactics, which means you make changes to your site itself while building a portfolio of natural back links to increase your organic rankings. When Internet users search for your products or services, your website needs to be the first one they find. SEO helps the search engines recognize your relevance to specific keywords and content that people search for online. The search engine optimization process includes researching keywords, creating content, building links and making sure your website is visible in the search engines.
It is our goal at Specialty Web designs Inc. to stay current on the constantly changing algorithms of search engines.  Here is a link to our 2015 SEO certification.

Google using HTTPS as Ranking Signal!

If you are a SEO or web designer then you may already know that Google announced their intention to use HTTPS as a Ranking Signal.
From Google Webmaster Central:
Security is a top priority for Google. Beyond our own stuff, we’re also working to make the Internet safer more broadly. A big part of that is making sure that websites people access from Google are secure. We want to go even further. At Google I/O a few months ago, we called for “HTTPS everywhere” on the web.
For these reasons, over the past few months we’ve been running tests taking into account whether sites use secure, encrypted connections as a signal in our search ranking algorithms. We've seen positive results, so we're starting to use HTTPS as a ranking signal. For now it's only a very lightweight signal — affecting fewer than 1% of global queries, and carrying less weight than other signals such as high-quality content — while we give webmasters time to switch to HTTPS. But over time, we may decide to strengthen it, because we’d like to encourage all website owners to switch from HTTP to HTTPS to keep everyone safe on the web.

Why #Responsive Web Design?
Desktop sales have been surpassed by mobile sales already, and most digital media education sources predict that mobile web use will overtake desktop use by 2014
Mobile-broadband internet subscriptions are still growing rapidly and are expected to reach 2.3 billion and mobile-cellular subscriptions will reach almost 7 billion by end 2014.
Responsive web design makes your website fluid, meaning one design for multiple devices. In today's world more users are using smart phones and tablets to replace bulkier laptops for work and for research. Can you afford not to develop your website in a #responsive-web-design.
