Being in business for over 30 years we get questions all day about different things. Most recently it was about Monogramming wine glasses.
I usually try to stay neutral, however this particular customer wanted to know what I thought was the correct thing to do. Is the woman's initial first or the man's?
Traditionally, the man's initial is first, then the last initial and then the woman's. I told her that I have many customers that insist on the woman's name being first. So, I usually drop it at that. This particular individual and her husband decided to go with tradition. Before leaving she said she was going to Google it and call me back. True to her word she called back with what she found. She said that I was correct the man's initial is first, then the last initial and then the woman's.
That being said, I have other customers telling me when the subject is brought up that all the invitations have the woman's name first. That the woman's name and family is first on all the invitations... Well, when you are hosting an even,t that is who's name is first. Traditionally, the brides parents are paying for the reception and therefore, hosting the event.
Also, when you address a letter the traditional way is "Mr. and Mrs. John Smith" not "Mrs. and Mr. Jane Smith".
However,  I always engrave what the customer wants. :D
