"For most types of ultrasound scanning, we are imaging anatomy. In vascular ultrasound, we are looking at physiology. We see the physiology happening right in front of our eyes in real time, and it's all noninvasive."
~ Dr. Robert Atnip, Professor of Surgery and Director of Noninvasive Vascular Lab at Penn State Milton S Hershey Medical Center

October is recognized annually as Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month (MUAM). Dr. Atnip visited our Main Campus in State College to speak to Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) students as part of a special guest speaker series held throughout MUAM. Dr. Atnip's presentation included a review the history of the development of diagnostic ultrasound imaging. Click through the link for more on the topics Dr. Atnip covered.

Congratulations to the Student Ambassadors from our Lewistown Campus! They earned first place in Lewistown's annual Christmas Parade on Saturday. This year's parade theme was "Toy Land" so the South Hills walkers dressed up as Misfit Toys from the 1964 television special "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer."

Pictured, left to right, are Frank Stevens, baby Jaxsen Sulouff, Rylie Ream, Tyler Stein, Bryanna Metz, Alan Aumiller, Ava Sulouff, Nick Winkles, and South Hills Career/Student Services & Academic Affairs Coordinator, Christine Sulouff. Christine is Ava's mother and Jaxsen's grandmother.

It's #ThrowbackThursday! We thought it was a good opportunity to share three fast facts about the history of our three campus locations. And finally: our Altoona Campus (www.southhills.edu/altoona).

1. In February 2001, we established our Altoona Campus when we acquired the former Altoona School of Commerce, a business school which had previously been in operation since 1884.

2. Our Altoona Campus opened a second building in time to celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2011. The large building is across the street from our original campus building, and it is where our visitors and applicants are received. It allowed us to free up more classroom space by giving us a new place to house the Admissions and Financial Aid offices.

3. Eight of our specialized associate degree programs are available at our Altoona Campus:
•• Administrative Medical Assistant: www.southhills.edu/AMA
•• Administrative Professional: www.southhills.edu/AP
•• Business Administration—Accounting: www.southhills.edu/BAA
•• Business Administration—Management & Marketing: www.southhills.edu/BAMM
•• Criminal Justice: www.southhills.edu/CJ
•• Health Information Technology: www.southhills.edu/HIT
•• Information Technology: www.southhills.edu/IT
•• Medical Assistant: www.southhills.edu/MA
