More and more front line managers ask for evidence of learning that doesn't interrupt the day-to-day functioning of their teams, but still adds value. Usually, this is after we've gotten over the speed hump that is realising ...

The traditional 70/20/10 model is another way of expressing that learning at work should be self-directed. Jane Hart writes about this as self-organising. There is a lot of reference in workplace design, workforce design and ...

Someone sent me this clip as an introduction to some influencing techniques. It makes a good introductory argument for some simple changes. I'd like to see how a group of grads (or similar cohort) would react to trying these ...

After writing about Brinkerhoff's Success Case Method last week, I fell into a vortex wonderment, watching and re-watching his presentation at Learning Technologies 2013. Brinkerhoff spoke about Making L&D Matter. Proving the...

I stumbled on this fantastic comparison of two methods of evaluating learning in the workplace. Most of us are already more than familiar with the Kirkpatrick approach: difficult to manage levels, quantitative, isolated to th...

I mentioned it in my write up for the ElNet Congress, but it's good enough to mention on this blog too: Debbie Millman's Design Matters podcast is the business. Debbie Millman is an incredibly gifted interviewer, educator, wr...

Well, employee development really is my job. However, I've been reflecting on the opinion of others lately, that seems to be something along the lines of 'I'm just a front line manager, I have no real decision making power an...

Summer Reading
Given its the silly season, and most of us south of the equator are taking a well earned break, this summer reading flow chart could come in handy. This is the first solid break I've taken in 15 months and naturally I immediately made a list of all the thin...

Here in the blogosphere there are a ton of influences and resources and events and companies pushing ideas and *stuff* at the education consumer. It's easy to forget that for those L&D professionals/educators/learning people ...

Typhoon Haiyan is thankfully over. The aftermath will unfortunately continue to affect thousands of people in the Philippines for years to come. This silly season, please consider an act of generosity as you wind down for the...

Nominations are now closed for the 2013 Edublog eddies. These are annual awards that recognise some of the best in the online ed space. Sure, it may be part PR exercise, part popularity contest, but there's a heck of  a lot o...

A blend of learning, technology, strategy, change and organisations as social places.
Introduction
Towards Erudition is partially an experiment. It’s also partially an invitation to conversation, though I don’t expect many people will bother to engage - there are already enough words on the interwebs.

Most of these posts are my own and represent my views, though sometimes I will cross-post stuff. Learning about how to do learning and technology and work better is a lot of what this blog is about.

There’s also some other stuff thrown in to keep things interesting. Currently that may or may not include food, crossfit, craft, beautiful design or music.

Nothing is objective.

I live in Sydney.

I have a background in HR.

I work at a financial services company.

I go to and volunteer at C3 Church Ryde.

I work out at CrossFit Kuring Gai

I drink a lot of coffee.
