It has been painfully obvious that the Sooners need to run the ball more often and more effectively next season if they are going to win the big games.  The inability to run and failure to convert key first downs was exploited during all three losses and this issue had a huge impact on the outcomes of these games.  Luckily, Bob seems to be putting an emphasis on having a stronger run game next year and the Spring will be key to getting the team ready to have a more downhill running as part of their playbook.  It seems strange to even discuss this as running the ball has always been part of the Sooner lore.  Here is to the Sooners running the ball more effectively next season!  Boomer!

It is always interesting to see another person/sites ranking and evaluations of recruits.  In this particular article SoonerScoop.com takes a look at the departing class of 2012 and re-ranks them based on their contribution and output.  I tend to agree with most of the re-rankings, except the one regarding DeMontre Hurst.  I believe his was a big time contributor and his somehwhat lackluster senior season was the result of being asked to play in a scheme that did not highlight his strong skills and exposed the soft underbelly of our defense.  What do you think of the re-rankings?

While Bob Stoops may be prideful and defiant, it is obvious based on his conference that Bob understands the natives are restless.  The mere fact he had the conference and answered questions that he had previously ignored or refused, says a lot. While, like many prideful leaders he may not acknowledge that changes are being made or schemes are being re-thought, they are…not publicly…but they are.  His pride wouldn’t allow anything else.  Bob is a great coach and we as fans can rely on his pride to return OU to the top.

So, you can bet we will see more zone or option read incorporated into the spread offense that has become Bob’s staple. He must make use of our three quarterbacks that can run, in addition to passing.  Also, expect more focus on defense, especially stopping the run. Defensive tackle development will be crucial.
I, for one feel comfortable that Bob is doing what he needs to behind the scenes to keep his pride and the pride of his coaches and team intact.

It is so important for the Sooners to quickly address the defensive shortcomings with this recruiting class.  Coach Mike needs to get some players that he has recruited in key positions and be able to run the schemes that can address the prevailing winds of offenses around the Big12 and beyond.  What do you think?

It is a wake-up sign when some of your most storied former players begin to publicly criticize the program.  It is time for some change and I believe that Stoops and the Administration are hearing the discontent regardless of a select few that say they don’t care.  If Barry came be moved out, then anybody can.  Nobody is bigger than the University and the program.  Nobody!  What are your thoughts?  Boomer!

OU has an embarrassment of riches at the receiver position and is set for 2013.  Jalen Saunders is set at slot with Sterling Shepard as his backup and with Trey Metoyer, Jaz Reynolds and Durron Neal on the outside, the Sooners will have a strong passing threat.  If they can get the running game going and some zone read involving the quarterback in the game plan.  The final question becomes at the quarterback position will it be veteran Blake Bell or one of the two triple threats Kendall Thompson or Trevor Knight to take the snaps and lead the offense. Regardless of which one they choose, all three of them have the ability to run and pass and add some innovation to the Sooner game plan.  With all the talent and a little tinkering to the game plan, the Sooners have a real chance to field an explosive offense this Fall.

Tip-off for the game is in one hour on ESPN.  It would be great for the Sooners to put it to the Longhorns on national television.  The game is being played at the Lloyd Noble Center and should have a ruckous crowd awaiting the Horns.  It is time for the Sooners to make their NCAA Tourney move and expanded their Big12 record by beating the Longhorns will help.  Even though Texas is experiencing a tough season they still can be a dangerous team and the Sooners need to “ball up” tonight.  Boomer!

It is amazing how far this team as come this early in the season.  Lon Kruger has been a real blessing for the Sooners, as he coaches and represents the university in such a top-flight fashion. As the article discusses the next seven games will be very interesting a provide a litmus test as to how far this Sooner squad can go.  Must say though Kruger has brought this program back faster than i thought he would.  Congrats Coach Kruger!  Boomer!

It is interesting as many are already predicting Blake will be the starter next Fall.  I am not so sure, as Trevor has torn it up on the Scout Team and gave the first-string defense fits. Thompson has true skills as well.  It will be an interesting Spring and Summer.  Who do you think will be the starter at QB in next fall?  Boomer!
