Solace of Requiem

Our neighborhood guitar wizard Richard Gulczynski recently uploaded a video of himself performing the madness of 'Heaving Bile And Ash'. He had originally planned on putting a few hundred clocks behind him, as well as a Mayan Calendar, some hourglasses and a bust of Chronos, but he thought that would make his video seem just as pointless as the last band's video was that used that tactic. Oh well... We can always imagine what it would look like to have the god of time staring at him while he played! We've also uploaded the guitar tablature for this song (Guitar Pro 5.2). So if anyone wants to give it a try, you can download the tabs from our homepage. We hate to state the obvious, but to prevent anyone's junk getting caught in a ceiling fan... Advanced Guitar Players Only! You can also download the audio (MP3 or WAV) for free on our Music and Tablature page. Good luck! And don't forget to turn off those ceiling fans!

Thank you to everyone that came out and supported us in Europe during the tour with Ulcerate and Wormed. A special thanks to all the bands, promoters and especially, the fans! We would also like to thank Luuk and DoomStar Booking, without whom, none of this would have been possible, as well as Kevin Heiderich, for playing second guitar for us again this year. We could have never done it without you all and we thank you! See you all again next year! \\m//

It is with extreme pleasure that we can finally say that Solace Of Requiem will now be donating 10% of all online clothing sales towards three wonderful children's charities. We wanted to give our "secular" support to Science and The Arts and we are delighted to say that we have found three charities that fit that criteria perfectly. But before we tell you about the charities, we're going to tell you a little bit about how this works. Firstly, the 10% donation is non negotiable. If you buy an article of clothing from our Online Store, 10% of that money is going to one of those three charities for kids, whether you like it or not. The next thing you need to know is that when you select the size and quantity of your order, you will see an additional drop-down menu that will give you the list of three charities you have to choose from. It is your choice which of the three charities your 10% will be donated to. However, if you choose not to select one of the charities before making your purchase, your 10% will be automatically donated to our default charity. We'll tell you more about who that default is really soon. First we'd like to tell you about how the money will be handled. PayPal will not be involved in any of the transactions. However, you will have the donation accounted for on your bill and receipt from PayPal. Once every 3 months, we will tally all the numbers and make a donation to each charity accordingly. This ensures that the 10% you have donated will not be taxed on our end and the full dollar amount of your percentage will be given to the charity you have chosen.

Wow! Sure glad all that's out of the way! Now we can tell you a little bit more about the charities. First up is our default choice. In other words, if you don't make a selection on the charity drop-down menu, then your 10% will go to these guys by default. And this prestigious title goes to none other than The Dreaming Zebra Foundation. For those of you not familiar with TDZF, they are an international organization that is dedicated to bringing art and music to unfortunate children all over the globe. Some kids they help have never even seen a crayon, let alone a musical instrument. Who knows what Salvador Dalí or Pablo Picasso lives in a place with no damn crayons?! There just so happens to be plenty of places with no crayons, so that's why they need your help. Please visit WWW.DREAMINGZEBRA.ORG to learn more about this wonderful organization.

Next up we have a place that we personally felt brought the whole idea together. Without them, it wouldn't be nearly as awesome for us as it is now that we get to write Camp Quest will be on our unholy trinity of charities. If you have never heard of Camp Quest, we strongly encourage you all to take a look. CQ provides residential summer camps for the children of atheists, freethinkers, secular humanists, and humanists. Their mission is to instill certain values in children, such as integrity, empathy, creativity, critical thinking, and community. CQ has camps in various location in the United States, as well one in the UK and one in Switzerland. There also happens to be one in our beloved frontman's hometown of Tidewater, Virginia. To learn more about Camp Quest and all the great things they do, please visit them at WWW.CAMPQUEST.ORG.

Last, but certainly not least, our third and final charity to receive our heathen support is the International Child Art Foundation. ICAF is known for the many things in regard to bringing art to more unfortunate children. However, there's one thing that these guys do that really makes us want to help them in their honorable cause and that is that they work mainly with children that have suffered through natural disasters, catastrophes and even war. These guys do all they can to bring art and its education to children all over the world and we are very proud to be one of their supporters. If you would like to learn more about ICAF and their ongoing mission to bring color to bleak situations, please visit them at WWW.ICAF.ORG.

Now we only have one piece of the puzzle that's missing. YOU! So get off your ass and go help these kids and yourself by picking up some Solace Of Requiem merchandise. Although you'd be far less fashionable, if you'd like to donate to the charities directly without buying any of our merchandise, please visit on one of the above URLs or view them on our website.

Epic Fucking Brutality! Classically Composed / Brutally Rendered
Introduction
Epic Fucking Brutality! These are the only words that can accurately describe Solace of Requiem. The band is from the United States and plays a most unique and original form of extreme metal. Sometimes labeled as "Technical Blackened Death Metal", SOR's music is not only instrumentally technical, but is also technical in composition. Blending together an array of haunting technical passages, classical movements, grim ambience and relentless brutality, with a diverse assortment of highly intelligible extreme vocals. Making it is easy to hear the vast collection of influences that are incorporated within Solace Of Requiem's music.

The band's lyrics are based in philosophy and are very poetic in nature. Often times showing alternating perspectives of themes such as science, psychology and secular thought. Painting bleak landscapes of the torment and oppression caused by religion and the rise of science over fantasy. Intelligently putting the disturbing images of these landscapes deep in your mind and challenging you to strive for the hidden wisdom within each passage. These lyrics are not blatant in any direction. All interpretations are left to the beholder. Yet, the emotional interpretation of the words are targeted toward the grief and misery caused by a nonsecular view and highlighting the empowerment of having secular thought.

SOR is comprised of well-rounded musicians, who strive for technical proficiency on an individual level, so as to best perform music that requires a high level of instrumental prowess to execute. However, meticulously composing their material to properly express their aesthetic vision. This vision is of music that is very dynamic, focused, and written in forms that are closer in nature to those of classical music. As opposed to the overdone "riff 1, riff 2, chorus, repeat" format, or simply juxtaposing a string of so-called "brutal" riffs with no rhyme nor reason, Solace Of Requiem has created music that is unique in sound, as well as in structure. Making extreme metal that is in a genre all its own.

Classically Composed / Brutally Rendered . . SOR's newest album, Casting Ruin, will prove to be a benchmark in brutal, atmospheric and technical song writing. Incorporating the study of binaural audio into their already complex structures, Solace Of Requiem has used this knowledge to facilitate the unorthodox poly-rhythms and complex writing style found in their latest work. If you were to hard-pan your speakers left, and then right, you would practically hear two separate songs. Combining these two songs creates the illusion of a third (main) song. This is the technique from which SOR has created it's original sound, unique to any known genre of death metal or black metal.

As veterans of the scene with over 10 years of making music and touring, Solace Of Requiem has always managed to stay ahead of the times, as opposed to getting stuck in a rut. Many would listen to the first and last SOR albums and assume it's not the same band. When one listens to their newer work, it is easy to hear the progression of advanced rhythmic and melodic compositions within their albums. Even a short listen to their catalog will prove to anyone that this ever growing band is not a one trick pony.

SOR's first (self-titled) album was released in 2004. The album is pure old-school death metal, containing only brief glimpses of what the band has become today. Although the production quality is very low, the album is ridden with great old-school death metal classics.

The second album (Utopia Reborn) was released in 2006. This album is a great piece of progressive death metal. It still has somewhat of an old-school feel, but is far more advanced in composition than the previous album. Utopia Reborn was mastered by Andy Classen at Stage One Studio in Germany and features Bret Hoffmann of Malevolent Creation on backing vocals for one of the tracks. All this helped to give the band's second release a label deal, worldwide distribution and underground recognition.

After some lineup changes and a big writing process, Solace of Requiem's third album (The Great Awakening) was released in 2010 and was produced solely by Andy Classen at Stage One Studio in Germany. This album is pure technical death metal with a bit more of the black metal influence heard on their prior releases. The result led to The Great Awakening not only being far more technical than the previous albums, but also more advanced and diverse.

In 2013, Solace Of Requiem set forth with a new guitarist and recorded their latest album (Casting Ruin). With their new material being the most advanced music they had ever tried to record, an immaculate sound and professional environment was definitely needed. So the band teaming up with producer and perfectionist, Brian Elliott (Mana Studio), was only necessary for SOR to succeed in completing its latest project of unrelenting technicality and musicianship.

Solace Of Requiem's newest album, Casting Ruin, was ultimately released to the public on August 29th 2014, by ViciSolum Productions. SOR also released their new album trailer for Casting Ruin, as well as their new video for the song Soiling The Fields Of Putridity. To top it all off, a tour through Europe with Ulcerate and Wormed was arranged in support of their new album.

Please support the underground music scene and purchase a copy of the album. Pop stars make millions of dollars and the majority of them don't write any of their own music. Support true talent and buy SOR music, merchandise and/or come to their live shows! Solace Of Requiem is a band that you will never regret seeing live. Their energetic performance will leave you wanting more. Playing off the energy of the audience, the band reciprocates it, augments it, and this goes back and forth between band and crowd until there is only one entity, and the single experience of an SOR show. This is a band who truly submerges their lives into their music. Please show your support in any way you can!
