OPVIUS GmbH and Cambrios Advanced Materials are proud to announce the successful joint development of semi-transparent organic photovoltaic (OPV) modules featuring a silver nanowire (AgNW) bottom electrode. Although the effectiveness of OPV modules on Cambrios’ nanowire-coated substrate has been demonstrated before, this is the first time that this combination of technologies has been applied to free-form modules. #opv #organicphotovoltaics #opvius #nanowire #freeformmodules

#OPVIUS receives award in the “Applied Innovations“ category at the #ZumtobelGroupAward. The project “From Solar Trees to Active Glass Façades” is awarded with an “Honorable Mention” at the renowned architecture prize. The project focuses on the promise made by OPIVUS with the Solar Trees at the Expo 2015 in Milan, of making #organicphotovoltaics available and applicable.

Printed Organic Photovoltaics: S+L Selbstklebeprodukte and OPVIUS sign co-operation agreement for the development of OPV-stickers

Kitzingen & Gotha, Germany – By developing self-adhesive OPV-films, OPVIUS together with S+L Selbstklebeprodukte GmbH are broadening the horizons for OPV products and OPV integration. Imbedding OPVIUS modules in transparent carrier materials, for example glass or foil membranes, has been possible for some time. Their integration into laminated polycarbonate sheets was recently presented as part of an installation at the Climate-Pavilion at the State Horticultural Show in Thüringen.

The integration techniques developed up until now are mainly aimed at integration, that is to say embedding the module in the carrier material by way of a lamination procedure. This is generally limited to transparent materials and predominantly serves the market for original equipment manufacturers. OPVs can be integrated directly into construction materials whilst they are manufactured, and are therefore installed together with these materials. By developing self-adhesive OPVIUS products, an additional solution can now be provided that will be of interest when retrofitting existing surfaces, as well as for use on non-transparent carrier materials.

S+L Selbstklebeprodukte GmbH’s many years of experience working with stickers for public transport as well as the manufacturing of classic car decals is of central interest to OPVIUS GmbH. Their expertise in various applications, processing procedures, and working with new technologies in the field of foils, all build the foundations of a joint collaboration. Combined with OPVIUS’ production technology and the resulting freedom in terms of colour and form, this expertise will enable users to obtain customised products that are easy to install. This will significantly expand the range of applications of printed organic photovoltaics.

“By developing self-adhesive OPV foils, we can bring our products further into the market, and make them available to an additional user-group. OPVIUS stickers provide many new solutions, particularly for already existing surfaces” says Hermann Issa, Senior Director, Business Development and Sales, OPVIUS. “The need for high quality in order to ensure a good and lasting adhesive bond is frequently underestimated. In this regard, in terms of cooperation, S+L Selbstklebeprodukte GmbH was our first choice for implementation. It has paid off.”

Christian Lins, Business Director of S+L Selbstklebeprodukte GmbH added: “A good adhesion needs to work both visually and flawlessly in terms of function, and needs to last in both indoor and outdoor settings. In addition, we had to look at the properties of the OPVs, and adjust our stickers to the OPVIUS products. Here, our great wealth of experience of adhesion to a large range of substrates, for example trains and buses, paid off, as they also need to be long-lasting and visually perfect under conditions of constant exposure.”

The Mannheim-based energy company #MVVEnergie presented its new corporate identity at this year’s May Market and introduced three Velotaxis with their solar-based charging systems. They use #OrganicPV modules as an example of the tangible value of renewable energies and energy supply. The #Velotaxi customers can use the energy generated by the modules to charge their mobile devices. The OPV modules can be adapted to the shape of the bicycle taxis due to their flexibility, in order to achieve maximum efficiency and charging capacity. Installation of printed OPV solar umbrellas to provide energy on the outer shell of the Thüringen „Climate Pavilion“: By order of the Thüringen Ministry for the Environment, Energy and Conservation, the Climate Pavilion on the State Horticultural Show in Apolda was equipped with organic photovoltaics. The solar umbrellas were developed in line with the specifications of bluekon3 and reich.architekten bda, in order to increase the energy efficiency of the Climate Pavilion. The light, highly durable and unbreakable semi-transparent umbrellas are, according to the client‘s conception, easy to dismantle and reconstruct, to provide the use of the Climate Pavilion at alternating locations.

Organic photovoltaics: Graubner Industrie-Beratung and OPVIUS conclude successful joint project for CE marking of OPV modules

Kitzingen, Bad Herrenalb, Germany - CE marking was introduced to guarantee safe products for consumers in the European Union. As a result, a product may only be offered for sale in the European Economic Area if it conforms to the essential requirements of EU regulations governing the product in question. By applying CE marking, the manufacturer demonstrates that a product fulfils the relevant legal regulations and technical specifications. The overarching objective is the free movement of goods within the European Economic Area.

OPVIUS GmbH and Graubner Industrie-Beratung GmbH have come together to perform a joint assessment of OPVIUS OPV technology. During the CE conformity assessment procedure, the various relevant aspects of the product were examined and checked with regard to the applicable regulations. The joint project declares the CE conformity of OPVIUS OPV technology.

"CE marking is mandatory to enable the free movement of goods within the European Union. For this reason, especially in the case of new technologies such as OPVIUS OPV, it is important to do the necessary homework in good time," Vincent Wolf from Graubner Industrie-Beratung GmbH explains. "The investigations carried out in advance were crucial to the evaluation of OPVIUS technology with regard to CE conformity."

Hermann Issa, Senior Director Business Development & Sales from OPVIUS, adds: "We have been working for some time to underpin open questions by means of studies and research work which now allow us to conclude the evaluation procedure. This is an important step, as great care must be taken in particular regarding distribution to the end-customer. On behalf of our clients in industry, we want to safeguard this in good time."
