4. My thoughts and feelings are valid. I honor each emotion. Sometimes we feel uncomfortable with our self expression, believing that others know better than we do or have more right to take center stage. Do not doubt your value or underestimate your worth. Your contribution counts. Communicate with respect for yourself and compassion for others. Look to see who else you can help hold space for in this way so that each person is able to express themselves in a safe and supportive environment.

Registration is now open for the fall series of The Great Remembering: Tracing a Map Back to You.

We begin on October 1st.

The Great Remembering is a tribute to the memory of the body and the language of the heart. It is an exploration. A gentle rediscovery and reawakening of who you are. A guide to help you come back to yourself.

Over two weeks we will gently explore, tenderly examine and lovingly remember. There will be suggestions and ideas for you to consider.

Your daily gift of great remembrance will also contain journaling prompts and two invitations.

Sometimes we find answers in stillness, sometimes we find answers in motion. You will be invited to explore both.

As part of your journey you will:

* Unlearn age old stories and notice what your body is asking to shed.

* Look at the ways in which you might be labeling yourself.

* Remember the soul song of who you are.

* Discover what anchors you and how you root down.

* Remember the flow and fluidity of you.

* Notice the parts of you that are visible and those that have disappeared.

* Create awareness surrounding synchronicity and symbolism.

* Observe the power of the pause.

* Understand the experiences that inform and influence you.

* Pay attention to how apology feels within your body.

* Examine how you freeze and thaw and what becomes lodged and stagnant.

* Recognize conflict within the body and how we house pain.

* Seek the stars that are not North and the ways in which they offer direction.

* Illuminate the spaces that you shrink from and those that you expand into.

* Return to the home of you, the sanctuary of you, the body of you.

In addition to the daily e-gifts, I will also be sharing exclusive videos on five of the fourteen days.

You will be the recipient of over 16,000 heart centered words which will be beautifully packaged and yours to keep.

Attendees will also have private e-access to me between 1700 – 1800 EST for each day of the experience which will be an opportunity to get further guidance and encouragement.

Creating this series has felt to be such a true reflection of life. Sometimes I was lost in beautiful creative flow, other times it was all I could do to squeeze one more drop. This is what makes it authentic and real.

Everything, and I do mean everything, that is within this offering has come from the heart.

Some of the days have additional content. Isn't that true of life, too? At the editing stages I reminded myself of that - not everything has to be so exact and precise and obedient. Nor do we.

I have, however, taken time to package and present this in a way that I hope honors the heart it came from and the hearts it will be received by.

I'd love to have you join me:

I had been stumbling in and out of a relationship that was torrid and turbulent. The spaces of calm which had nestled themselves in between the erratic hours were becoming more and more slender. Sometimes I couldn’t see them at all.

The relationship had seen me folded, over and over and over again. Until I was the smallest square of obedience. Timid and tiny. Cornered and caged.

Every day was an elaborate balancing act, every word was measured, every action was weighted. My existence was made up of scared seconds that were clinging to the edges of the person I was trying to be. Even my much loved make-believe world of books didn’t feel like the refuge it once had.

I looked in all of the wrong places for all of the elusive answers. It felt as though nothing would survive those years. Including me.

The key is to know your own warning signs. And the golden key is to listen to them.

Which is actually really damn difficult because we live in such a contradictory World:

Take time for yourself. Practice self care. Take breaks from social media.

And.

You’ve got to have connection! Bills are more important than candle lit baths! If you’re not on social media then your business will suffer! You’ll be forgotten! REPLACED! You won’t exist. Post! Post! Post!

For the love of milk chocolate wafers, can we just not with this?

I have stopped listening to anything that doesn’t feel like a fit for me. And this includes, but is certainly not limited to, the following:

You have to send a daily (God help us!) or weekly email to your subscribers because otherwise they’ll know you don’t have an endless supply of content.

You have to post constantly to Facebook. In addition to this, you have to answer every comment and if you don’t you will be judged to be A Very Rude Person Who Doesn’t Care About People.

On a regular basis you must produce podcasts, giveaway giveaways, collaborate with Important People (importance to be based on how many followers they have or whether they know someone who knows someone who dated someone who once went to school with Beyoncés hairdresser) and of course, you must keep an hourly track of what other Social Media Influencers are doing (and I’m too busy gagging to type more on that.)

But wait, there’s more.

You have to have a theme. (Nope, not a dream. A theme). So that anyone who visits your site or page will know in a matter of seconds what it is that you DO.

Which means you cannot be witty and then be reflective. And you cannot post a picture of yourself at a protest and then post your poetry. Because you are not supposed to be multi faceted, purely one dimensional, preferably whilst looking flawless.

And I Can’t. Do. That. Shit.

I chose these candles myself. Quite deliberately. Because we are not supposed to announce our years once we have moved past thirty - so says society. Well I will loudly and proudly announce and celebrate every year I am fortunate enough to witness. Many don't make it. It seems such an insult to their memory to be coy about ageing, to deny and resist what cannot be different. In the time that it has taken me to write this post, someone somewhere has died. I have no fucks to give about anti ageing creams or potions that promise to erase the experiences that are etched into this skin of mine. I have no desire to smooth out my cellulite or tighten the skin around my neck or arms or thighs. I am here. I am living. I will not waste my precious life by pretending to be any less of who I truly am. All of me is beautiful.

And with that, I welcome my forty third year of being human. I'm five days in and already feeling so full of gratitude.

Thank you to CNN for interviewing me as part of this feature piece on bulimia. I have written about my experiences many times and I feel it is really important to continue to be honest about what self criticism leading to self harm can look like.

"That turned out to be a reality for Skylar Liberty Rose at a young age.
Rose now finds solace in her writing, photography and mindfulness, as well as candles, classical music and chai tea -- but she said it wasn't always that way.

Whenever the London native lacked control or felt stressed, she said, she would binge-eat whatever she wanted and then make herself sick and purge the food so that her body wouldn't take on extra pounds.

She started doing so when she was 18, living in the city and working as an administrative assistant. It made her feel powerful, she said.

"It was almost like, 'OK, I've got all of this stress, and I've got all of this anxiety, but this is my release,' " Rose said. "My state of mind was, 'if I'm stressed and overweight, that's way worse than being stressed and thin.' "

Around the same time she flirted with bingeing and purging, Rose also smoked, socially drank a lot and "never really viewed myself as having an eating disorder," she said.

"I wasn't really respecting my body in any capacity," Rose said, adding that she didn't even feel comfortable talking to her doctors about what she was doing.
She was never medically diagnosed with an eating disorder.

"I was actually able to stay in a space of denial for quite a long time, because bulimia wasn't necessarily a part of my daily life. I would go stretches at a time without making myself sick, so I kind of normalized it," she said.
