"The work in this show is marked by a complex blend of the visceral and the cerebral, the abstract and the real. Most important, however, these artists are non-strategic: they rely primarily on intuition rather than research or theory to move the work forward."

Peace to you, Ellsworth Kelly. Thanks for illuminating the path. It's an honor to be hanging with such heavyweights. (L to R: Joan Mitchell, Ellsworth Kelly, Sky Pape, Willem de Kooning. Private collection, NY)

A bouquet of hearty, overdue greetings for you!

I’ve been a recluse, now gingerly stepping into the sunshine with this invitation for you to join me Sunday, June 14th, from 1-6 pm for my open studio. Address: 91 Payson Ave, 1C, New York, NY (building entrance is on Beak St.). Tel: 917-992-4001.

If drinks and snacks and art aren't enough to entice you come venture to northernmost Manhattan, there's more.

F'rinstance, why not check out the lively “Drums along the Hudson” festival in spectacular Inwood Hill Park, an annual open-air pow-wow you can read more about here: http://www.drumsalongthehudson.org/2015-celebration ? Or, if it’s more art you crave, stop by the Morris-Jumel Mansion in Washington Heights, Manhattan’s oldest history-laden house, now populated with eye-popping sculptures by esteemed artist Yinka Shonibare, MBE.

ALSO THIS MONTH:
I am happy to announce I’ll be in a group show at June Kelly Gallery, downtown in SoHo at 166 Mercer Street, NYC. The opening reception for “Crossing the Line” will be on June 26th from 6-8pm, and the show will be up through July 31st, 2015. My drawings will share the gallery with excellent art by Norman Lewis, Elie Nadelman, Rebecca Welz, Nola Zirin, and Mark Alsterlind.

Hope to see you in June!

If you can stop by my open studio on Sunday, June 22nd, from 1-6pm, I’ll be offering up some new work I’ve been keeping under wraps just for this occasion – a debut glimpse of unique small-scale ink pieces and also some large prints. I especially enjoy that my open studio gives you a behind-the-curtain view and the chance to see a broader range of my work than you’d see at one of my shows in a gallery setting. Oh, and snacks. Did I mention snacks? Address: 91 Payson Avenue, 1C, New York, NY (building entrance is on Beak St.).

This half-day event is part of Nomaa Arts month-long Uptown Arts Stroll (http://www.artstroll.com/), with open studios and art on view throughout the neighborhood. You can download a PDF map (http://www.skypape.com/ArtStroll2014map.pdf) for the open studios, or download a mobile app here: http://www.artstroll.com/open-studios/open-studios-mobile-guide-for-ios/).

Besides visiting studios while you’re uptown, you can also stop by NoMAA Gallery, 178 Bennett Avenue, 3rd Floor, where two pieces from my “Time Being” series will be part of a group show from June 17th through July 27th, curated by deep thinker and non-stop doer Rosa Naparstek. Afterwards, you could join the nabe’s prized art hero Lin-Manuel Miranda and wind down with a screening of Woody Allen’s “Manhattan” at the jaw-dropping United Palace (http://unitedpalace.org/events/482-manhattan-with-lin-manuel-miranda) or wind up with UP Theater’s live performance 'ShowingUP' at UpstART, 7pm, 93 Cooper St. between W 207th and Isham Streets.

Elsewhere: My solo exhibition “Traces of Places” at the Hunterdon Art Museum continues through September 7th. It’s an hour-ish from NYC at 7 Lower Center Street in Clinton, NJ. Gallery Hours Tuesday-Sunday, 11am – 5pm. Tel. 908-735-8415.
