Try making an elephant toothpaste! All you need is hydrogen peroxide, liquid dishwasher and potassium iodide

Reaction: 2 H2O2 (aq) → 2 H2O (l) + O2 (g)

This week many of us will be remembering the passing of Steve Jobs in 2011. Many call Steve Jobs a titan of the tech industry, and whilst true in a marketing sense, let us also remember another titan......

Dennis Ritchie died in October the same year as Steve Jobs. Due to the overwhelming reaction to Steve Jobs' passing only a week before, Dennis' name barely reached mainstream media.

Dennis (and colleague Ken Thomson) were responsible for the creation of the C programming language in the 1970s. They invented it because of the difficulty of porting (moving) UNIX from one system to another, one assembly language to another. They needed something that would create a layer of commonality between different hardware systems. Thus, C was born and UNIX re-written in it. UNIX then became an operating system that could run almost anywhere. UNIX is the system that inspired Linux, Android, OSX, iOS, and many other operating systems UNIX-like operating systems. The C language is the language that many modern languages are based on such as C++, Java, etc.

The rest, as they say, is history. Nothing ever achieved by our current high profile tech titans would have been possible were it not for the efforts of Dennis Ritchie (and colleagues). Almost every piece of technology we touch today has lines of C, or some derivative of C running inside.

Let us remember this titan, whose shoulders many stood on, to give us the technology the world lives on today.....

Hi,

I have a Seagate barracuda model "ST500DM002-1BD142" internal HDD which is a SATA 3 standard I hope.  Also I have a RC410-M (Asterope3) which is of standard SATA 1(1.5 Gbps data transfer). Will above mentioned HDD will be backward compatible with the motherboard or I have to force the barracuda HDD to SATA 1(1.5 Gbps) using the jumper settings?

Why I am asking this is somewhere I read that SATA 3 is backward compatible with SATA 1. is it true?

Seagate Support will be closed on 12/24 and 12/25 in honor of a company observed Holiday. Normal business hours of operation will resume on 12/26. Please feel free to utilize our various online resources which are available 24/7.
