Pretty good NYT story on "Why Fidgeting Is Good Medicine." if you're stuck at your desk and can't stand up or otherwise get moving, fidgeting can help fend off some of the mechanisms of sitting disease.

New Lancet study shows that sitting disease costs the world $67.5 billion a year - about $54 billion in health-care costs and $13.5 billion in lost productivity. Estimates are conservative and "sensitivity analyses based on less conservative assumptions led to much higher estimates." The authors say that the study "provides further justification to prioritize promotion of regular physical activity worldwide as part of a comprehensive strategy to reduce non-communicable diseases." Active office, anyone?
