Since the early nineties Sitemorse has been providing data on the levels of accessibility compliance, firstly for the WCAG 1.0 Guidelines, then the 2.0 Guidelines and through four iterations of the Sitemorse platform. We’ve talked to hundreds of businesses, government departments and other organisations across different sectors and countries. We’ve measured thousands of websites but time and time again our data shows a lack of website accessibility compliance. To start changing this situation , there are three things that need to happen; Start the conversation, Shift the emphasis away from compliance to user experience, from achieving compliance to moving towards it and take a pragmatic view.

Changes are normally made with positive intentions; the implications of dealing with these needn’t be negative. However, the practicalities need to be looked at; for a major organisation to manually change even one piece of content across its whole digital portfolio could be quite an undertaking. With SMART Content™ from Sitemorse, industry, brand and territory rules can be put in place that will prevent content straying outside of set parameters, as well as correcting and optimising your content prior to publish.

Gaining AA compliance based on the WCAG 2.0 guidelines is so difficult that most websites simply fail. We want to shift accessibility from being a tick-the-box exercise to being about improving the user experience for everybody. Naturally this is far easier said than done! Here’s our view on some of the practical steps which digital teams need to undertake to make this happen.

The needs of the customer, requirements of management and tools of the workforce are paramount to the creation of a digital ecosystem that serves all of these stakeholders. Digital transformation, or digital business transformation is frequently viewed as going paperless, but it would be more accurate to describe it as embracing new digital innovations in order to achieve your goals, rather than just using technology to support your traditional approach. Many organisations do little more than update their front end with a “digital overlay” whilst continuing with the same practices behind the scenes.

Now the Air Carrier Access Act (ACAA) final deadline has passed, are the airlines ready, are the websites fully accessible and do they comply to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0?

The US Department of Transportation (DOT) has initiated the Air Carrier Access Act (ACAA) on the websites of all US and foreign airlines that market air transportation services to US consumers for any routes to or from the United States. The final deadline of 12th December 2016 states that every webpage of all these airlines must be accessible. But do all these pages comply?

Digital management is opening up to scrutiny as never before as more and more tools gather insights about operations. But there is a real danger that the quality of decision making will decline as data volumes increase.

Many different sectors are #regulated by an official body. The regulations they enforce often include those to their websites. But what happens when the regulator moves one of their #compulsory links and doesn't tell anyone? With the size of modern #websites, the task of manually finding these broken links is incomprehensible. #Automation and Continual Content Assessment (CCA) from #Sitemorse is an essential tool for digital managers to ensure their #website is #compliant.
