Michael Canales, D.P.M., one of many master surgeons at St. Vincent Charity Medical Center, is widely regarded for his expertise in medical and surgical care for foot and ankle injuries. He recently treated a woman from West Virginia who had been suffering for several weeks from a diabetic foot ulcer. A friend told her about St. Vincent Charity and Dr. Canales because of their combined reputation as the best in the field.

Man 2 Man, which is a program of the South Carolina Center for Fathers and Families, works to help more fathers engage with their kids by providing resources and education to help them be the best dads they can be. The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina recently announced the selection for its 2018-19 President’s Fellow—Shawn Brown, a rising junior at Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina. Brown was chosen from a pool of outstanding student leaders that went through the interview process.

Through a $150,000 responsive grant, the Sisters of Charity Foundation of Canton helped provide support for Pegasus Farm to open the Military Family Center near Canton, which provides equestrian therapy for military veterans, first responders and their families.

The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina recently awarded $373,500 in community enrichment grants for 2018 to 22 organizations. The foundation’s mission to address poverty in all of its forms is reflected in its decision-making around community enrichment grants. These grants are designed to support nonprofits whose comprehensive services are based on experience, research and evidence-based models to break the cycle of poverty and provide long-term life change. https://bit.ly/2LhAkif

The South Carolina Center for Fathers and Families is again partnering with Men's Wearhouse for the retailer's 11th annual National Suit Drive. The center is one of nearly 200 nationwide nonprofit organizations to benefit from the campaign, which provides professional clothing for men re-entering the workforce.

University of South Carolina Professor Ronald Pitner, PhD, recently joined the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina Board of Trustees. Pitner joined the faculty of the College of Social Work in 2009, where he is also associate dean for curriculum, director of the I. DeQuincey Newman Institute for Peace and Social Justice, and affiliate faculty for the Research Consortium on Children and Families.
