Message from UK Firemen
copy/pasted from that other network

Ok, so which room are your children in?
We are going in, and we are going to try our best to get them out.
Whilst we are in there we are going to take one hell of a hammering from the heat.
Our fire kit will protect us (To a limit) but that doesn't mean our bodies will be put through an exhausting and brutal heat induced shock.
Knowing there are people in there who need rescuing will give us the extra strength needed to fight through the fire to get to them. Through the pain.
Whole body burning, blood pressure massively increasing, sweating profusely as the body tries to cool itself. Breathing rate off the scale and heart pounding to cope with the stresses our bodies are enduring. Can this type of bodily punishment possibly be taken without consequence later in life of some form. (You be the jury).
But your family is in there, and we willing to suffer serious injury or die trying if needs be to get them out alive.
We are young and healthy and our bodies can endure more punishment compared to a 60 year olds body.
Yet this is what the government wants, 60 year old fire-fighters. Who will be sacked if they can't reach the fitness standards set by them. Upon sacking the pension they have paid into all their working career will not be paid for a minimum of 7 years to them.
The media is a powerful tool and the corrupt government has them in their pocket. I invite any single one of the MP's (Especially the 55 to 60 year olds) to come down from their ivory towers and try to wear breathing apparatus in a simulated house fire in our training facilities. Where the temperatures are a measly 300 degrees celcius. Just a bit hotter than the blast you get in the face when you open the oven door. (Not be very nice to climb on inside the oven would it?)
Not the 1000 degrees a house fire hits where the pain really sets in and the body really starts to suffer.
We are not greedy, We pay a large portion of our own wage into the pension.
We just want our rightly earned pension when we retire at an age which reflects what we have put our bodies through to protect the public.
We are backed into a corner and we have to fight the governments un-reasonable proposals to protect ourselves and the public we serve.
Please share this post with others, as social media sites are not controlled by the government and their rich chums.
We WANT to rescue your family, We WILL move heaven and earth trying, We WANT to be fit and healthy and able to do so, We WILL try to always be at the standard required. We WONT all be able to do that. We only WANT our rightful pension we have paid into if we can no longer reach the standard. We DONT want sacking and left on the scrap pile.
Thanks for reading and please share the TRUTH written in this post amongst your friends on Facebook all social media.
We don't want to strike! We joined to help and protect the public! We are being left no option!

Remember folks, if you can't get to work due to winds, floods or zombie apocalypse; this makes for what I am told is perfect Ingress weather.

+Krisztina Thaisz You're assuming of course that NIA Ops won't have banned us all for using hangouts to communicate by then. I mean, if they aren't Google, then that makes hangouts a 3rd party app, and therefore just as bad as IITC or Broot.

It's a shame a smurf called Stratu5 used an ADA right in the middle of it after we'd all left.

Is anyone else having any problems connecting to Google+?

I can connect easily to GMail, Talk, Search, Drive and Market, but not to Google+ nor to Hangouts from my PC running Chrome. Facebook, Twitter and other sites load with no problems at all. I flushed the cache and cookies which fixed the problem for about half an hour before reverting to it's prior failed state. It's been going on now on and off for about 3 days.

My phone has no issues, and nor does my tablet (on the same network as the PC), which is how I can post this.

Anyone?

Well that was a bit fail!  I went west yesterday to meet people, go to the GBBF and do a pit of portal hacking as you do...

Unfortunately, my phone started getting low on power. I checked the battery and all was connected. I switched to the tablet and the same was happening.

The upshot of this was that I got nothing really done, and got taunted by an iphone user for androids battery life... until I mentioned it had updated a bunch of apps over 3G (seems ithings don't (or can't) do that).

Anyway got home and am now recharged.  The only thing faulty was the charging cable I had taken. So not the end of the world at least... (That's at the top of Camden High Street)

Actually there is more history here. For a v long time there was a v low max size limit for apps allowed in Android Market. This meant that a) many games downloaded most of themselves on first launch b) it was pretty safe for Google to allow all apps to download and/or auto update over cellular.
But Apple had no such size restriction to list apps in the App Store, so it was and is routine to have apps that are hundreds of megabytes. Apple took the view that having those be allowed to download over cellular would cause all manner if battery and other issues.
Things are now different because:
1. IPhones usually come with data cap plans, not unlimited. This is more like Android in the early days for Android.
2. Google Play has raised the size limit for listing apps so second pass downloads are not so important.
3 iOS7 will add the app auto update option, although only on wifi.
But on both Android and iOS the legacy setups are still in place although the app update experience is now (in iOS7 and because of the similar data plans) v similar on both platforms.

I am Siobhán, that is all most of you need to know.  If you do need more, ask, I rarely bite - well, unless you ask really, really nicely.

I like movies, books, wine, beer, games and technology, though not necessarily in that order.

I have a blog at Siobhán's Random Musings where you may find out more about me if you're interested enough to look. I can't promise it won't be boring though.

I've been coming here since the day it opened, and never had a bad beer nor service less than stellar. The décor is industrial, with ducting on the ceilings and bare walls in parts. The downstairs was completely black (chalkboard style) but has more recently been done out. It's comfortable enough, although it can often be hard to find a seat, so if you plan to meet friends, come early. The food is awesome, although I sorely miss the old pork and sauerkraut burger (The El Bandito chilli burger is nice, but no replacement). The pizza is certainly plenty for me, and far from being a light snack, the cheese/meat platter is a meal in itself.

Sitting in The Oxford for Sunday lunch at a friend's birthday party. I have to say that I was disappointed! The menu looked nice, as did the photos on their page. Unfortunately, the reality was somewhat different. We were 6 there, and though we ordered separately (in 2s and 3s) we expected the food to arrive at more or less the same time. Two dishes arrived in about 10 minutes, the others eventually about 20 minutes later. People arriving later ordering the same food got theirs sooner. We got excuses although eventually a call to the manager got us promised free desert. Personally, I declined. As to the food, I can only really speak for mine. I ordered the roast chicken, which on arrival looked more boiled than roasted. It was also barely warm. The yorkshire pudding was burnt yet cold, which complimented the cold gravy. The greens were cooked to within an inch of their lives, and the roast potatoes overcooked. To add insult to injury, the pub removed the comment I left on their page. Obviously they only want positive comments. I think I've discovered a new low in food quality in London. Congratulations.
