Trevor Noah, host of The Daily Show, is also a good writer with a pretty amazing story to tell!
Trevor Noah's new "Born a Crime" is a must-read for anyone interested in South Africa. It's entertaining but also poignant and inspiring. A little bit like Angela's Ashes with sunnier weather.

By far the best hotel I've ever stayed at was Le Touessrok on the island of Mauritius, off the eastern coast of Africa in the Indian Ocean.I'm not the only one to make this claim. Our entire family is in rare agreement on this point, but don't just take it from us: Le Touessrok has repeatedly been voted one of the leading hotels of the world. It simply has everything going for it. It helps that it's situated on one of the most beautiful stretches...

More hiking - and so close to Joburg!
In the first week of my #Gauteng52 challenge, Ray and I went hiking on the Hennops Trail north of Joburg. We met several cows and a donkey.

The best travel memories are rarely made on the 5-star corporate retreat where everything is utter bliss. Unfailingly, the vacations living on in family lore are the ones where you get stuck in an unpleasant place, where the kids turn up their noses in disgust, and where you temporarily harbor thoughts of killing your spouse for cooking up such a harebrained plan. Our arrival in Zanzibar some years ago is one of those unforgettable memories. The a...

Introduction

EVA MELUSINE (SINE) THIEME was born in Germany and has since moved across the world seven times, lugging progressively more stuff and family members along the way. She has a business degree from a German university too difficult to pronounce and an MBA from UNC Chapel Hill. After three adventure-filled years in Africa she now lives in Brentwood, TN, where she dedicates her time to her freelance writing career while often reminding her children to pick up their rooms.

Her travel memoir Kilimanjaro Diaries: Or, How I Spent a Week Dreaming of Toilets, Drinking Crappy Water, and Making Bad Jokes While Having the Time of My Life was published in March 2014 and subsequently translated into German. Both editions have become Amazon bestsellers in African travel literature. She is also the founder of Joburg Expat, an award-winning blog chronicling her family’s life in Johannesburg, South Africa. Her articles on expat living, travel, and parenting have been published in numerous publications, such as the Wall Street Journal, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, SA People, and Kansas City Parent Magazine.

Bragging rights
Has grasped the difference between just now and now now as expressions of South African time, has remained sane – so she likes to think – with four teenagers in the house, and has her water fairy namesake printed on every paper cup of a major coffee company.
