The Royal Westmoreland 20th Birthday, we look back at their story
Royal Westmoreland, the exclusive private estate on Barbados' west coast, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this April and reflecting on the changes that have taken place over the years.

The golf, beach and spa resort set across 750 acres of lush, tropical landscape has become a coveted address on Barbados and barely recognisable from the original site of sugar cane fields in 1994. Whilst there has been extensive development in Barbados over the last 20 years it remains the only gated golf community with completed amenities on the island today.

It was back in 1994 that Yorkshire businessman Bill Rooney purchased the land commissioning Robert Trent Jones to design and build the championship golf course and a building programme of luxury villas commenced. In 2004 UK leading leisure entrepreneur John Morphet purchased the estate, and has since spent £50 million improving and adding to the existing facilities.
Montegrappa, official partners of Luxurious Magazine at the Baselworld 2014 exhibition
Enjoying the facilities and added space in its new booth, Montegrappa – Italy’s oldest and most-respected manufacturer of writing instruments and luxury accessories – participated in its most successful BaselWorld appearance to date.

A delighted Giuseppe Aquila, CEO of Montegrappa, says, “We were overjoyed to welcome and host distributors from over 40 different countries, along with more than 300 dealers and numerous members of the press.” Meetings, too, were undertaken with potential new partners in new territories not yet served by Montegrappa, while a number of mature markets will be seeing the opening of new mono-brand boutiques, following the success of those already in operation.

For Montegrappa, BaselWorld was an opportunity to celebrate a number of important new collections including the “Icons” pens for legendary football player Pelé and the celebrated Grand Prix champion, Ayrton Senna. Both pens were received with enthusiasm for their elegant representation of the spirit of both sporting greats.

Also important for Montegrappa, along with expanded catalogues of wristwatches and cufflinks to augment the pens, was the sensational “My Guardian Angel” pen, also offered with matching timepiece and cufflinks. “The reaction to this pen,” says Aquila, “was particularly rewarding for us, given the spiritual nature of the subject. We have booked orders for a number of these ‘angels’ in solid gold and silver, knowing that they will serve as personal totems for their owners.”

Cool Travel Ideas: New Photography Hides For Bear Spotting In The Tatra Mountains

New wildlife hides will allow guests to photograph rare brown bears in Slovakia’s Tatra Mountain Range

Three wildlife hides have been custom-built in Slovakia’s Tatra Mountains, providing guests with the unique opportunity to capture close-up images of wild brown bears in their natural habitat. Tatra Photography has built the hides, giving guests on their photography holidays the chance to shoot once-in-a-lifetime images of Slovakia’s stunning wildlife, including wolves, lynx, wild boar, birds of prey and the European brown bear. Built in February and March 2014 while the bears were hibernating, the hides will be used exclusively for Tatra Photography’s three and four day wildlife photography adventures in the Carpathian Mountains, Slovakia. Remote Cameras were placed in potential locations in September 2013 to allow Tatra Photography to see which areas were frequented the most by bears before the hides were built.

“Tatra Photography has come up with a unique workshop that gives photographers the chance to capture images of the brown bear, one of Europe’s most endangered and enigmatic species,” said Matt Jevons, founder of Tatra Photography.  “Guests will be able to spend sunrise and sunset sessions in the hides, and guided by our expert tutor, they will have the chance to take home spectacular pictures of wildlife including wolves, lynx, deer and wild boar as well as bears,” continued Jevons.

The three hides are built in the Cierny Vah and Maluzina Valleys, and Tatra Photography has a contract to build a further six hides, including locations in the Liptovska Teplicka Valley.

Budding photographers will be able to book inclusive three or four-night workshop packages to the Tatra Mountains including flights, transfers, accommodation and a professional photography tutor who will provide feedback throughout the trip.

Ben Hall, one of Britain’s foremost wildlife photographers is available to tutor workshops, offering expert tips to help guests make the most of their trip.

Chopard craft the Cannes Film Festival Palme d’Or Trophy in ‘Fairmined’ certified gold

Chopard and the Cannes Film Festival Palme d’Or Trophy, two names synonymous with the highest quality. When they both come together you can be assured of something of the highest quality, and this long-term collaboration results in one of the most prominent awards in the film industry, the Palme d’Or. The aforementioned trophy is the festivals highest accolade and has been awarded for almost sixty years to the best film at the festival and for 15 years it has been meticuously crafted by Chopard the luxury Swiss watch and jewellery brand. This time, the crafting of the trophy will be different as for the first time ever it will be made with ‘Fairmined’ certified gold to help promote sustainability within the luxury industry. We at Luxurious Magazine thoroughly approve of Chopard's efforts to lead from the front, when you are one of the big name brands as they are, making statements like this is not easy especially when parts of the industry completely fail to grasp the the point of ethical manufacturing. Hopefully many more luxury brands will follow their example, we just hope that those that decide to don't use it as an excuse to increase prices.
