Is there a way to keep the tablet going when I turn the screen off. eg, updating a game on steam...it halts the download when I turn the screen off, so i have to have the screen of for hours.. does this with anything

Anyone know of a glass protector that fits to the back of the surface pro 6. Obviously (before someone says it), it would have to be in 2 pieces. Be nice if it was similar finish to the keyboard. My only thoughts are to buy some stick on fabric to protect it. Just don't like putting it down and getting scratches.

Booo, pixel slate does not have dual boot to windows. Shame, really enjoyed my pixel C. The wife will have it now and I think I'll be going to the windows tablet.

Can anyone tell me if Android auto (car), uses the same data sharing from your phone as WiFi hotspot does? Reason is simple, I want a head unit for my motorhome (RV), and when I travel to France or Spain, will it still use data from my phone or will my phone treat it as a hotspot style connection of which I would have to pay for outside of the UK.

I'll expand on that a bit.
Currently I can turn my pixel phone into a hotspot to which my wife and I can connect with tablets to do stuff with, in the UK that is free (up to 30Gb on my current provider). But if I go to France (or anywhere not UK), I can't share the data as a hotspot without paying per MB extra.
So if I get a head unit with Android Auto, will it be less useful abroad because of the way it gets data from my phone.

Tricky one to get an answer for until I actually try it, but how irritating it would be if suddenly I can't connect to data when travelling abroad and therefore the maps will not load the latest information eg traffic.

Cheers.

FB is shutting down moves. Great, I guess it's nothing to do with the amount of people using it but more to do with the fact that they can't share the data they have got from it.

Split screen woes.
So, another irritating thing google have done in their constant quest to destroy usefulness on Android. I used to be able to split screen on my pixel with google maps and my music player, that worked well. I could then occasionally rate a song or next track or even look at the pic when queuing in traffic whilst keeping the maps going. Now though, you can still split screen but the focus goes from one or the other. EG, I click on the map area and the map updates real time, but the track changes and it's showing still the old song but playing the next track. If I click the music player, it updates, but the map stays static....Stupid update that is. So now, sort of split screen.

What Music player are you using.

Once upon a time, 1998 to be precise, I bought an MP3 player and wrote a script in Unix / Linux to convert wav files into mp3 so I could listen to 20 albums on my motorbike, think my name is still on the 'Lame' freeware log. I used to rate the files using the 5star system using musicmatch on my pc....perfect.
Then time moved on, I had a palm pilot etc...and I could now sort them on the move,
1 star= delete next time syncing to the pc
2 star= xmas song or comedy
3 star= OK
4 star= good
5 star= top favourite at the moment

That way I can sort all my music...perfect.

As days went by, changing from iPhones to Android phones depending on what one I liked at the time, I went through google play, which I dumped as soon as they got rid of the star rating and changed to the stupid thumbs up rubbish, then iTunes on my pc to sort the music, which is about the best one for what I need.
Currently using rocket player on pixel phone and isync to iTunes. Bit of a nightmare if you want to (god forbid), move your library. I now have 2,3,4,5 copies of each sonng, it's a mess. I have still somehow mannaged to keep my ratings from the beginning and play counts, although it is getting a challenge these days.
So the issue...
I notice that Google, Amazon and Apple are falling over each other to try and get people to sign up to pay per month to their streaming service, which is fine for the majority of people who want to listen to only what they have. Not for me, because 30% of my library is not available on any of them, that I can guarantee! The problem with these giants constantly faffing around to get money from everyone is that the players are now crap and don't do the basic things they used to. My palm pilot could open up and play music quicker and better than any app I've tried on my pocket 'cray super computer', it's ridiculous.

So please....pretty please, can anyone tell me if there is a basic player that simply works, I am happy to pay for one, I've looked into writing my own, but it means learning new programming that I fear I won't be interested in. I need a music player that reads the mp3 properties and rates to 5stars and creates playlists...simple. Then a way to sync that to my pc at home when I can be bothered.
Thank you
Si

Beyond Oculus...

So a few months ago I bought Oculus rift and thought I'd play ED on it but it was not to be. I searched for solutions but it would not run and gave in. Actually, I've not played the game much since as other games are catching my interest.
So now Beyond is out, has anyone installed this on Oculus and got it to work?
