No KP, so why not. He'll have "unfinished business" too.

England Domestic Season 2014

The county game got underway in earnest this weekend, and with so many hopefuls waiting for the call to the Test side, there are a lot of players vying for our attention.  Samit Patel had a stellar opening day, getting close to a century at Trent Bridge, while Eoin Morgan started the season with an inauspicious golden duck.  Finn also failed to make much of an impression with his 4 overs going for 20.

So who else should we be looking at?  Who's on your watchlist to ascend to the ill-fated international team?

Ali is indeed looking like he has some potential, and he has some momentum coming out of the World T20.

New Zealand v India, 2nd Test, Wellington, 1st day

New Zealand 192
India 100/2

Sharma and Shami keep the Kiwi's in check at 192, with a career best 6/51 from Sharma.  Dhawan looks to be building a solid innings.

Kane Williamson failed to capitalise on his rare luck after being twice recalled from no-ball dismissals. But, yes, the lad does play some exquisite shots!

+Hugo Burnham Pretty much. I don't doubt that KP is difficult to work with and finds it difficult himself to toe a party line. Even though that is probably the case I'm sure that they could have found a more satisfactory way of dealing with it. As it is this seems to me to have set back England's progress in the short term. Next season will all be about what might have been if KP hadn't been squeezed out - especially if England fail miserably, as seems likely. Hope I'm wrong.

"One of the volumes is a collection of essays from a French poet named Arsene Houssaye. He gave the book to a doctor friend who bound the book in the skin of an unclaimed body of a female mental patient. The binding has “a greenish-gold hue as well as visible pores,” the Crimson reports...."
The University discovered three volumes in its collection have anthropodermic binding, once fairly common practice.

If they head over to Miskatonic U., they can have four.

This seems like something +David Mikics should be warning is about. #slowreading

How would you like to read 250-600 words per minute with little or no training?  This is pretty interesting, speed reading, high comprehension, and crank it up slowly as you get used to reading this way.

"As online content continues to be increasingly consumed through mobile platforms, it’s no wonder we’re seeing new formats to deliver information more quickly and fluidly. In the past, we’ve seen Wibbitz present any news story as a visual and dynamic infographic instead of plain old text. But now Spritz believes that humans can read much faster using its system of ‘streaming’ text at up to 600 words per minute."

"Developed for smartphones and watches, the company has spent the last three years researching and trialling its system of what it calls ‘text streaming’. Based on the theory that most readers are slowed down in the information intake by the movements of the eye as it scans lines of text, Spritz squeezes entire novels into a small, 300 pixel-wide space and instead flashes each word for a brief fraction of a second. According to the developers, each word has an ‘optimal recognition point’ — a letter that the eye searches for once it’s jumped to that word in traditional text — and Spritz aligns all of its words around that letter, so it’s in the same place each time."

This is pretty nifty!  I'm curious how well it works for novels...

1st Test: South Africa v Australia at Centurion

Australia 397 & 80/1 (23.1 ov)
South Africa 206

Looks like that whole Ashes thing might not have been a fluke.  And maybe all the finger-pointing in the English camp is a little overdone.  Mitchell Johnson looks to be in his ascendancy as he tears through the South African innings with 7 wicket (and a catch to add insult to injury).

Wandered in on an impulse while waiting on a car service at the dealer across the street. Very friendly staff who gave me a tour of the menu and some recommendations. Got the 3 bao special with Porkbelly, Beef Curry, and the Soft-shell Crab. All were wonderful. The bbq porkbelly was rich and flavorful, the crab slightly spicy, and the curry as good as anything served at Khyber across the parking lot. The steamed buns are soft and moist. The ginger miso dressing for the salad was also pretty good. For $12 or so I left full and having enjoyed some complex flavors that elevated the meal beyond typical fast food.
