NRV's! Amazing Products - If You Can Fit them!

Here is what you won't be told about Non-return valves for your drains.

Non-return valves have the amazing potential to solve rat problems in moments by preventing rats reaching defective or redundant pipes which are open doors into the fabric of your home.

Non-return valves or NRV's are brilliant, but here are some disadvantages you are unlikely to find listed along side them.

1. Plastic NRV"s don't last and often get eaten.
2. You are not allowed to fit them in sewers that are shared and belong to the water authority.
3. If your NRV causes a blockage in a shared sewer you could be sued.
4. Steel varieties last years, but can be very difficult to fit without grinding down the benching.
5. Always get someone to spot you when fitting these valves. Getting trapped upside down in an inspection chamber is a bad way to go!
6. If you accidentally fit them the wrong way around, you might not be able to get them back out.
7. In just under 5% of cases, your drains will be fine and the rats will be coming from a neighbours house.
8. Professional fitting for inspection chamber under 48 inches is often £200-£400+ Vat for 4" pipes or double that for 6" pipes. Inspection chambers over 48" could cost significantly more.
9. Always check that the flap is working properly and doesn't get stuck in the up position. Occasionally we need to use a grinder to modify the shape of the flap. Today all pipes are a uniform size. Victorian drains can vary slightly in size.
10. Don't use wet wipes! Wipes often get stuck up against NRV's causing blockages or cause the flap to lift just enough to allow rats back in.
11. Bonus Fact. Don't kid yourself that all rats will go through the valve. Rats don't like new things and some rats will refuse to go through, meaning that internal control measures must remain in place for at least a month undisturbed before you can break open the Champagne and celebrate your freedom form rats forever!

Bed Bugs - Preparing Rooms For Treatment

We know Bed Bugs fit into the very smallest of gaps, and therefore stands to reason that all gaps are fully inspected and effectively treated where practicable.

In this image we were required to rid an exceptionally large bedbug infestation from a property in Bristol. So effective was our stratergy that a single treatment eliminated the problem in 22 rooms!

We understood the importance of effective preparation. Unfortunately they used their cleaning contractor for monitoring and and follow up. In 18 months the problem returned and an entierly avoidable reinfestation required the full process to be carried out again.

Bedbugs deserve to be professionally investigated, and you deserve to be professionally protected.
