I'm going to shoot for an outing every Tuesday. Sad to admit, but since becoming unemployed, I've spent too much time in front of the computer, and little outside. Most of you know what a tonic it is to the soul to walk the woods.

I came across this quote today:

"To allow oneself to be carried away by a multitude of conflicting concerns, to surrender to too many demands, to commit oneself to too many projects ... is to succumb to violence. The frenzy of our activism ... kills the root of inner wisdom which makes work fruitful." - Thomas Merton

This quote applies much less to me today than certain periods of my life, but it's still applicable. The goal is balance, easy to say, tough to do.
I got into hiking and nature when I was unemployed 4 years ago. I'm working now and hiking is now mostly restricted to weekends but I'll never stop enjoying it.
