I have the same cage, but cleaning it is a real pain.  One has to move the entire cage of the base ... I wouldn't buy it again.  But kudos to creating such a nice environment for your pet.  There is nothing sadder than a pet bird that is not given any opportunities to play ... Sib

If they were red mites (as many times they are), that would do it. They drain the young of blood.  They breed in cracks and come out to feed on the birds.   They don't actually live on birds, they only get onto them to feed.  So the environment is infected.  Of course, as birds fly away carrying some of them, the mites will be spread to other locations.  Wherever the birds land and roost, the mites will get off and start another colony.  You will find these mites around bird feeders and nesting boxes.

This can easily be avoided by dusting the environment around nest and even the nesting material with 5% Sevin Dust.  Only a little is needed - especially in the nest you don't want much.  I would put it under the nesting material, not on top.  This webpage has some information on dealing with mites: http://www.beautyofbirds.com/mites.html#wildbirds

Signature requirements in itself has resulted in negative reviews. We have had the situation that customers get upset because they work and are not at home to sign for a package.  Of course, they could easily call the number on the notice the delivery person left at the door to arrange for redelivery or pick-up, but some customers don't like to be inconvenienced ... Anyhow, negative reviews have substantial impact on a Sellers Performance Rating - and a poor Seller's Performance Rating is a major reason for account suspension.  So it's a balance act.

Striped manakin
Bird

The striped manakin is a small South American species of bird in the Pipridae family. Its distribution is highly disjunct: The nominate subspecies is found in Atlantic Forest in eastern Brazil, while ... the striolatus group is found in forests in western Brazil, northeastern Peru, eastern Ecuador, Colombia, and western and southern Venezuela. Males of the former group have redder underparts than males of the latter, and the two are sometimes treated as separate species, the eastern striped manakin (M. regulus) and the western striped manakin (M. striolatus). In both, the males have a bright red crown, which the female lack.

Like many other manakins, the males cluster in a leks to attract females. After mating, the females rear the chicks on without the help of the males.

Scientific name: Machaeropterus regulus
Rank: Species
Higher classification: Machaeropterus

We just got  Nike's and they are authentic - and on the box it clearly states that these are also "Made In China" ... The fact is that many of the most expensive brands are having their products reproduced in Asia in order to cut cost.  So don't knock the Chinese, but knock those that copy products and/or reproduce them using inferior materials and processes.

This is what life is about ... Very heart-warming story ...

Birds are AWESOME!
Introduction
I research birds as part of my job and this is the BEST part, of course. The Avianweb receives a lot of e-mails from bird owners with questions about their pets, or from people who want to id a bird they saw in their garden.  The occasional rescue or bird emergency also keep us on our toes.  My days are spent researching bird species, updating species pages or dealing with website issues (which are also time-consuming); in between those tasks, I respond to these e-mails.

Other than being multi-lingual, working on websites, graphics, etc., my main passion is, and has been for many years, birds - as simple as that. I used to be a bird breeder, and even though I TOTALLY LOVED raising chicks, their uncertain future after they left my loving hands forced me to give up that part of my life, and now I am more involved in pet bird education and wild bird conservation (my other great passion). I have owned pet birds most of my life (still do) and share my knowledge in that area and compassion freely with others.

For anyone with serious health problems, choosing Dr. Itani and his office could be a fatal mistake. My husband is a stroke patient who's blood thickness has to be carefully monitored. His previous (retired) physician would call us within 24 hours after blood drawing (INR) to instruct us on either low or high PTR (low makes patients susceptible to stroke and high to hemorrhage). One week ago he had his blood checked and nobody got back to us. Now that was not an isolated case. Any previous blood draws / labwork were also ignored and we had to call the lab directly to find out the results. Dr. Itani's staff blamed the lab (AGAIN and AGAIN), we called the lab, they said they submitted the results within 2 hours directly to the office. I called Dr. Itani's office and was told "not to worry", we WILL call you if it is ***critical***. Really, you wait THAT LONG?????? As someone who wants to AVOID it get critical, I wonder - why wait that long if a simple phone call and new instructions could AVOID THAT. As it turned out, his INR was very high and if I hadn't called, we wouldn't have known the health risk he was under (hemorrhage). As of today (one week after the blood draw), nobody from his office has called with instruction. Please keep in mind - this was not the first time. I have given this office several chances (hoping that this was a new patient kind of issue), with the same results. Now we went to another doctor who provided proper instructions and assured us that this would not happen at his office. Dr. Itani's office is a medical malpractice suit waiting to happen. But the sad thing is that some unsuspecting patients could get seriously hurt in the process - and that trumps any financial reimbursement one could gain from this hair-raising negligence. PS. getting hold of anyone there has been a nightmare as well. Either nobody answers, or the phone appears to be busy ALL THE TIME. I literally had the phone redial automatically for hours, but it continued to be busy. It seemed to me that they left the phone off the hook. Like I said, use this doctor at your own peril.

Dr. Anderson is a caring doctor. His office is well managed. We typically don't have to wait long at all. We are happy with the care we receive. The only complaint I'd have is with their choice of Answering Service. All they do is basically tell you to call back during office hours, even if you CALL during office hours. What really is the point of such an Answering Service? A answering machine on which one could leave a message would be so much more customer / patient friendly.

They are very detail-oriented; do a great job on top of costing less than our previous lawn care company; and are friendly. What's there not to like. Strongly recommend. Sib
