They're gonna need a bigger camera...
I shared this on my personal Facebook page yesterday and it’s made the rounds of social media but it’s definitely worth a watch if you haven’t seen it already. (And probably worth a re-watch even if you have seen it already.)

Shutterbug columnist Jon Sienkiewicz has some sage lens-buying advice for newbies.
People often ask me, “What sort of lens should I buy as my second lens?” and my answer is always the same: “What sort of pictures would you like to take?” I’m getting that question a lot right now because a zillion people got new cameras over the holidays. There are so many options I’ve decided to deliver the answer in two installments. But first, let’s take a close look at that kit lens that came with your camera.

This was a very cool product; shame to see it land with a thud.
It was one of the most hyped camera drones in recent years and one of the best product demos we’ve ever seen but the flight is over for Lily. In a post on the Lily website titled “The Adventure Comes to an End,” company founders Antoine Balaresque (CEO) and Henry Bradlow (CTO) announced that Lily is shutting down and customers who invested in the project will be receiving refunds over the next 60 days.

What's old is new again
Last fall we ran a piece suggesting that instant film photography was making a comeback. And based upon recent data from Amazon, it seems as though that is definitely the case.

All images courtesy ©Man Ray Trust / ADAGP / TELIMAGE / Benjamin Black Editeur Some people think of Man Ray strictly as a photographer but those familiar with his broad body of work recognize him as a sculptor, artist and filmmaker as well. Born Emmanuel Radnitzky in Philadelphia in 1901, Ray’s eclectic background helped him reinvent photography as a significant force in the Dadaist and Surrealist movements.

+Vincent James, for the win, again.
© Vincent James Lost in the Trees After years of dreaming about visiting the “wondrous” Boardman Tree Farm in Oregon, Shutterbug reader Vincent James finally made the trip last fall while visiting the Columbia River Gorge. Unable to track down any reliable information online, he wasn’t sure how he was even going to gain official access to the farm.

Photo of the Day by Edi Kevric. Read about it here: http://bit.ly/2ihyOPe
The source of the Buna is one of the largest and most beautiful in Europe. It is the finest example of an underground karst river. It flows out of a 200m cliff wall and single-handedly creates the Buna River. Unsurprisingly, the Ottoman sultan was impressed of the beauty of this place and ordered a tekija to be built right next to it. This 16th century house/monastery was built for the Dervish cults and is still one of the most mystical places in...

OK, this one is really amusing!
While the humorous video below is from 2011, it’s getting a lot of love on Reddit right now so we thought we’d give it a share. You’ll not only learn the four-minute method for shooting a photograph, you might even feel a little less guilty for not owning a camera with the latest high-speed processing and focusing capabilities.
