Scotch Creek Cottages can be much more than just a place to stay. It can also be partaking in a piece of the Shuswap Lifestyle. Of course, the resort is a great place to kick back and relax, but there are many other great activities in the Shuswap Lake Area. We will describe some of the adventures we have or have had from our base at the resort and encourage others to do the same.

Starting with a trip over to nearby Copper Island which is a special location just minutes from the resort by boat. We have gone over to the island several times either by boat or by kayak. It is just 10 minutes or so to get to the landing beach on the east side of the island by boat. There is no dock, so you need to be set up to anchor offshore, or tie off your boat to the shore, depending on the boat and the conditions which of course can change quickly. There is a very nice loop trail on the island which does take you more or less to the top of the island so expect some steeper uphill trails. As it is a bit more difficult to get to there are not usually very many people on the island, in fact, most of the times we have been over there we have had the place to ourselves. Reward for your effort to get over to the island will be forthcoming as you will be treated to some of the best views of a special area. We have also kayaked over to the island on numerous occasions. Kayaking certainly simplifies the docking; it takes half to three-quarters of an hour each direction in good conditions. We suggest doing this at times of lower boat traffic for safety reasons. Make sure you go well prepared for the outdoors and with good charges in your phone and a backup phone just in case. I have never seen a bear over there yet, but as with any of the outdoor areas you do need to be aware of the possibility of running into wildlife.

The drive from Calgary to the Shuswap Lake through Banff, Lake Louise, Golden and Revelstoke has become much easier in the last 10 years. Highway is four lane divided from Calgary all the way to the Alberta Border now, as well as many more major sections through BC. One of the most spectacular is the Park Bridge in the Kicking Horse area between Field and Golden.  See the BC governments Kicking Horse Canyon Project website.
