Myth #1 Meditation is concentration Meditation is actually de-concentration. Concentration is a benefit of meditation. Concentration requires effort and meditation is absolute relaxation of the mind. Meditation is letting go, and when that happens, you are ...

Don’t you get this wheat bread from where you are, where you were? Do you have to conquer all these places to eat the same wheat bread? I also eat the same wheat bread and you also eat the wheat bread! And for that you have to kill so many hundreds and thousands of people all over the world, conquering everywhere...!”
Someone had told Alexander the Great that when you go to India, you will find sadhus there, saints. Just catch hold of one of them and bring them along. They have a lot of wisdom, a lot of knowledge. There is a story that he tried to take back one to Greece. But when he died, he told his minister, “Keep my hands open, both palms open. Let the whole world know Alexander conquered the world, but he went with empty hands, nothing in his hands.” He died without reaching his land — only his body came back. The greed is what keeps one going and going – one more, one more, one more.
How much more can you have? More happiness. This ‘more and more’ is the thing on which the mind gallops. It is said that a lover is in the present, a devotee is in the moment. The now and here. And he says, “I am satisfied.” And that is why Jesus said, “Those who have shall be given more. Those who do not, whatever little they have, that will also be taken away.” That contentment that you have uplifts you, elevates you.
Once a retired Chief Justice of Supreme Court of India came to me and said, “Guruji, I want your blessings.” I said, “What for?” (Laughter) Sometimes I ask, “Blessings for what? No blank cheque issued – purpose to be indicated! (Laughter) He said, “Guruji, I have just one more desire. I have everything, just one more thing I desire. I want to be in the International Court of Justice. I want to reach the Hague.”
I looked at him and said, “Look, you have attained the highest position in this country. And if you are not satisfied, if you are frustrated, think about all those lower court lawyers and judges working there, how frustrated they would be?”
“Yes, I understand, but just this one desire, please give a blessing for it. It is not for me, it is for the benefit of the whole world! I want to be in a position so that I can serve you better!”
No. This is all fooling yourself. The greed — labhadi, how much you can see for pleasure. Or misery — don’t get stuck up if you are miserable. Open your eyes and look at all those who are much more miserable than you. You will find your misery is nothing, it is too small.
Kaale prateekshamaane — have patience. “Oh this is all wonderful, but I don’t feel that love. I hear, it’s all nice, I sing, I dance, but I don’t feel those things. When will I feel them?” Don’t worry. Just have patience. Someone said, “Oh, I have been meditating for twenty years. I have been on so many advanced programmes, meditated so long, I have sung, I have done this japa, I have done that practice, nothing is happening.”
Just have patience. If nothing has been happening, you would not continue anything! Why did you do twenty years of meditation if nothing has happened? Changes are happening. Maybe they are slow, maybe you are unable to notice them.
We have come to this planet with tears in our eyes, kicking and crying we came here - we should not exit the same way, kicking and crying! Make a difference. At least when you leave this planet, go with a big smile, with such celebration.
