Where Does the White Fronted Goose Spend the Winter?
Changes to farming practices and crops from rice to sugarcane have driven the white fronted goose aka the specklebelly goose to South East Missouri during the wintertime. In the past, you’d find this type of goose in eastern Texas or western Louisiana during the cold-weather months!

If you’re waterfowl hunting in Northern Missouri, consider hunting in the dry corn fields as a new challenge that might bring you more success. You’ll get access to a lot more ducks in the corn fields, and although it’s more difficult to hide your presence, you can bag your limit with the right preparation.
The trick is to be sure to scout out your location adequately. The best times to scout are early in the morning and in the afternoon, as these are the two primary feeding times for waterfowl. The key thing to remember is that waterfowl will often return to the same feeding ground until it is depleted or harassed, so good scouting will allow you to find these great hunting spots before your next hunt!
Be sure to check out the guided hunting trips offered by Show Me Snow Geese, as they are a great way to guarantee that you bag your birds, no matter what your experience level is!

“Calling on the edges” This can be a very effective technique, when decoying ducks are starting to veer off or skirt around you. Many times a quick three or four note call can get them to turn back to make that one more pass in to gun range. This is just one of the little tricks our guides use during the Missouri Duck Hunting season. http://tinyurl.com/ljfbgtv

Here’s a quick tip to help you the next time you’re out timber hunting – remember that when ducks feed in the shallows they make the water muddy, so clear water looks unnatural to them.
If the water is shallow enough you can mimic duck activity near your decoys by muddying the water with your feet. Just stand up against a tree and kick the water so that you ripple and muddy the water.
This appearance will build confidence, and the muddiness amid the clear water will be easier for ducks to spot!
