"I felt lost. Why hadn’t I had the presence of mind to notice just one small detail to help me find my way? Perhaps it was the nervousness about my first serious interview and praying I would remember my well-scripted answers. Maybe it was the feeling of elation that periodically interrupted the butterflies in my stomach. My first time alone in the big city, and I was okay! I could do this! Now, however, I kicked myself for not paying more attention to my surroundings. A parking garage is confusing enough for the directionally-challenged individual, but the silver Mazda the rental car agency gave me looked too much like the hundred other cars interspersed throughout the massive, concrete enclosure. I was afraid I might be stuck in there all afternoon, wandering from one row to the next, awkwardly peering into each car to see if I recognized any of its contents. Wait! Was this even the right level? At least I remembered to take out my keys. Right? Right?? You’ve got to be kidding me. This place was getting bigger all the time. Or maybe I was just becoming smaller and more apprehensive. I was quickly losing the emotional high I’d had after finishing my interview. Suddenly I was struck with an image of my older self looking back and laughing, and I couldn’t help myself. A giggle escaped, and I decided this would be an adventure to tell my children one day. ‘Might as well enjoy it."

It's that time of year again. I've been looking forward to this for 2 or 3 months. Well, actually, I've been looking forward to it all year, but these last couple months I felt it could hardly get here fast enough. This little activity has definitely been a highlight for me.

Of course, thankfulness is a year-long practice, an attitude that infuses our lives with grace and joy. It is fun, though, to put this short list together and hear what you all have to say. God is so good, merciful and gracious to us, evidenced first and foremost by salvation and all the spiritual blessings that come with it, and by all means, let's make those things the top of the list when we count our blessings. For this post, however, I'd like to look at some of the little things, the stuff we often overlook and take for granted.

So, here are 6 things I picked.

Comfortable red sweaters
Painted rocks
Small chalk boards and smooth white chalk
Baking soda - from homemade hair products to toothpaste to biscuits, it's quite a useful little compound
Cheery little ladybug stickers
Homemade bread 'n' butter pickles (mmm . . .)

What are some of yours? (Pictures are welcome, too!)

Thank you, Daniel, for your patience in taking all the pictures for me to choose from!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!! 😁
