As part of our #GetMoving #Shoreham campaign we have launched a FREE #walking group to help everyone get started.

Walking is great for your health and well-being but with our busy lives we often don’t make the time to do it.

LET'S GET MOVING
So we are launching a free walking group to help you get started.

Join us every Monday at 2pm for a 30-minute walk around the local area, starting from the Shoreham Chiropractic Clinic.

All are welcome including patients, non-patients, dogs, pushchairs and all fitness levels.

No booking is required, simply come along to the Clinic and enjoy some pleasant gentle exercise with a friendly walking group.

A GREAT BACK CARE TIP FOR OFFICE WORKERS
Most office workers have heard that being hunched over a keyboard at your desk is bad for posture and can be a cause of back issues.
However, while it is easy to say, it’s not as simple to carry out and stick to. Which is why we love this back care tip from one of our male patients.

SCC owner and chiropractor Sam explains…

“He had set up a dart board in his office to encourage him & colleagues to get up regularly and get away from their desks. He sets his computer to alert him every 20 minutes, obviously ignores it a couple of times but generally gets up for around 10 minutes every hour or so and has a little game of darts! Genius! Lots of varied beneficial body movements involved there with both upper body and lower body getting involved.”

WOMEN SHOULD TAKE A PROACTIVE APPROACH TO BACK PAIN AND NECK PAIN
New research conducted by the British Chiropractic Association has found that women as young as 28 are starting to suffer from #backpain and #neckpain.

The research found that over one fifth of those in the research have struggled, and continued to struggle, with pain on a daily basis. Worryingly over a quarter of these said that they suffered with this pain for over 10 years.

BACK PAIN IS NOT NORMAL
While back pain has become a common ailment, often as a result of our modern lifestyles, it doesn’t mean that you have to accept it or consider it normal. If you are suffering from back pain or neck pain we recommend you seek treatment quickly before it becomes a long-term problem.

BE PROACTIVE
What’s more, by being proactive and making a few simple lifestyle changes you can have a positive impact on your back and neck health.

Another love along side yoga for Diana is food. Running Blini Catering, providing vegan/vegetarian food for Yoga retreats, yoga teacher training and general events.

The Shoreham Chiropractic Clinic is delighted to welcome yoga instructor Alex Chandler to its team based at the Studio in Ham Road, Shoreham-by-Sea.

YOGA FOR EVERYONE
Alex qualified as a Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance in 2015. She strongly believes that yoga can benefit everybody in some way and is passionate about making yoga accessible to people who may be differently abled.

She has trained with the Special Yoga Foundation in London in Yoga for Adults with Special Needs and has a particular interest in working with those living with dementia.

MAKE THESE SIMPLE CHANGES TO YOUR DAILY ROUTINE TO HELP PREVENT BACK PAIN
Research for the British Chiropractic Association* revealed that 71% of those suffering with back pain have been doing so for up to 10 years and yet, surprisingly, many admit to not taking proactive measures to take care of their backs.

In fact, even though nearly one third (29%) of those surveyed admitted that they had been unable to work due to their back pain, 40% said that they have never done anything to actively protect their backs.

A FEW SIMPLE STEPS...
At Shoreham Chiropractic Clinic we believe that prevention is better than cure and so we want to encourage everyone to incorporate a few simple steps into their daily routine to help prevent back and neck pain before it causes longer term problems.

For example, simply ensuring you take regular breaks when sitting for long periods of time, or walking regularly can have very positive effect on your back. So, how can we battle back pain before it becomes a problem?

Here are some top tips to help people keep back pain at bay:

No more slouching.... we may have to spend time sitting at a desk but improving our posture while doing it can make a big difference. Try relaxing when sitting in your seat, with your bottom against the seat back and your shoulder blades touching the back rest of the chair. Try to ensure that your hips are higher than your knees. Take a look at some more of our office desk posture tips

Get up, stand up.... try and reduce the loads on your back by not sitting for more than 20 to 30 minutes at a time. Simply stand up and stretch, change position and walk around a little. If getting away from your desk isn't so easy then take time to gently massage the back of your head and neck as you relax your stomach region with slow easy breathing. This will help to improve posture and reduce back pain by promoting balance, strength and flexibility in the spine.

Extend your walking... adding just a few minutes extra walking to your daily routine could be of benefit. For example, walk to the shops instead of driving; try walking a little faster to boost the exercise benefit; take the stairs instead of the lift.

Drink up... keeping your body hydrated is important so why not try drinking water instead of tea or coffee.
