One of the issues +Dean Robinson and I often encounter when dining out is inconsistency, and we often find ourselves excited by a first visit only to be disappointed by inconsistent service and quality in subsequent ones.

But as many times as we've eaten at Nozomi, we've always had great sushi and service, if at ever so slightly higher prices than the area average. And as often as we've run into inconsistency at so many other establishments lately, it's worth the difference.

BTW, their non-sushi food (other than the beef teriyaki) is also fantastic. (They have a full menu of Japanese-inspired tapas among other things.) And if you look really close at the tempura pics, you can see the batter is exceptionally crisp and light. And that might not seem like a big deal, but a skilled hand with something that should be as delicate as a proper tempura batter usually indicates a certain deftness in the preparation of other menu items.

An easy recommendation if you're looking for sushi in coastal Northern San Diego County.
