Last fall, food banks from around the state were called upon to provide CalFresh outreach workers to help with disaster relief efforts for the Lake County fires. We were able to send Linda and Claribel to help victims apply for Disaster SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits. They were recently recognized with certificates of appreciation from the California Department of Social Services!

We have a new partner in South County! Gavilan College is making it easier for students to go to school and put food on the table. This past school year, they started a pantry and kept it open during the summer. The Fresh Success pantry will re-open in the Fall when school starts. Great job to this Food Connection Outreach partner!
Here's a story from Luiza, our Nutrition Educator Coordinator for Santa Clara County: "We did a food demo of sauteed zucchini with sage and black pepper. It is so important to show members how to cook with spices and how much more flavorful their food becomes. Good job team! To make our day even more special, our CEO Kathy Jackson stopped by to say hello!"
For the past 6 years, Scott Rodriguez has been coordinating our Family Harvest and Produce Mobile Programs at Hawes Elementary School in Redwood City. Even when school is out for the summer and Scott is technically on vacation, he makes time to be at the distribution sites because he is very aware of how much the food means to families in the community. Oh, btw, Scott is the Community School Coordinator and After School Director for the City of Redwood City. Yes, he's just completely awesome. :) #gratitude
