Story
Introduction

I help others get ranking and learn best practices with their YouTube videos.

I am somewhat of an introvert who loves to make videos. If that isn't wacky enough, I make children's videos.

I tend to be pretty blunt, sarcastic and love to play the Devils Advocate.

As for me personally -

I like to take pictures of plants and animals in my area. I am not a professional photographer, but wanted to share my images so I built 2 sites to do just that.

Who are your buyers and more importantly, who influences them.

While listening to this video +Randy Milanovic hit on something that I think many sellers forget…buyers have people who influence their decisions and if the influencers don’t like you or like someone else better, you could lose the sale.

In fact, while at the NAB Show last week, I was surprised at how many people working booths would snub me when I ask questions. If it was because they didn’t think I would be a buyer, then fine. What they missed though is some little nobody like me, may know people who would be buyers.

They had no idea who my friends, family or clients are and if they might be shopping for that service or product. Maybe that is why I was asking questions, because I knew someone in the market.

Well, there are a few businesses that I will mention in a good light and a few that the light might not be so good.

I understand that you can’t build a website to fit every person that “may know someone”.

You can keep an open mind when in person or on social media. Just because they don’t seem like your buyer…be nice and answer questions (even dumb ones) you never know who they know.

Ok, popped over to see what +Jessica Dewell was up to and here we go...LOL

14:05 I agree with Randy about the text on an image then makes it more of a meme. I understand putting the title on an image and NOT for SEO as in the search engines, but for the sharing. So, when people pin your post or share with an image, it gives context.

The times I do put text on images in blogs are if the post is demonstrating something and you have actual snapshots of say, analytics and you use text on the image to show exactly what you want the reader to see.

Watermarks of course I do not count as text. If it is my original image, then I watermark.

20:35 Scot did great reminding people that busy is not great and that the play button always covers the most important part. LOL

Keep in mind that in the lower right will also be the time/length of the video, so don’t put anything super important there either.

Your thumbnail needs to be clear when squished down to 120x90 and then see if it looks ok.

I would say that if all the eye catching/noticeable part of your video thumbnails are the same, then you need to lessen that part (usually over branding) and enlarge the title.

Scroll through an unfamiliar search in YouTube and when you see a row of thumbnails that all look the same, you may find that you are more likely to think they are all the same video. Or if the thumbnail isn’t catchy, then you have just put a not catchy thumbnail on all your videos.

Also go to channels and look on their video tab, if they use all the same basic thumbnails, I am bored and have a harder time scrolling to see if I want to watch anything because they all start looking the exact same…think ad blindness.

To me, Branding on the thumbnail should be secondary to the title and topic and uniqueness. Some channels use a “layout” where their branding is always in the same place, but the colors images and text are all very different and I really find those to be best.

Remember that thumbnails are great for some channels and other channels they do no work so well for…trial and error is what it will take for your channel.

Ooops, I was just making a small comment and it is already out of control.

+Sheryl Loch if you want to see really great examples of great video thumbnails just take a look at +The Verge's website and see what they do with their videos. Really great work by their video team.

What is coming up this week on the RCUWomen YouTube Channel?

We have a great video coming out on Thursday April 2, 2015 and it is about LinkedIn!

Lany and +Karen Yankovich go through “What is a LinkedIn Company Page?”

We all know we need to have a personal profile on LinkedIn, but Karen will be telling us why we also want a company page and how they work.

So, if you are not subscribed to the RCUWomen YouTube channel yet, you will want to do that now. We would hate for you to miss this show.

https://www.youtube.com/RCUWomen
But wait…there’s more!

That’s right! On Friday we have the March Wrap Up show where we give some quick and dirty details about news and events in the online/business world.

Looking forward to seeing you over on YouTube!

This morning +ReelSEO sent out a Tweet saying they noticed that FaceBook is no longer listed as a connected account on YouTube channels.

I saw that it was missing a few days ago when I set up a new channel, but I figured it was just a glitch and would be back.
YouTube had been having analytics issues and well, you know how things go. LOL

Guess maybe the FaceBook connection is gone as in not just a bug?

Maybe since Google is teaming up with Twitter for real time updates, they made a deal to boot Facebook out?

Well, thankfully I encourage people to NOT hook Facebook up as a site like Facebbok really needs to be posted/shared to as a human.

So do you have any ideas as to why Facebook is no longer a connected site?
Or do you even care?

I don't tell cuz that ain't my thing...but I really thought this was gone many moons ago and found that sharing my videos directly on Facebook got little to zero views.
Since switching to hosting my shows on my site and linking back to my site I have seen tremendous increases (for me!) and have had little issue with Facebook views.
It is not my favorite platform, but it is for some fans, so I do have a residence I visit there.

I highly recommend that anyone with a website who is wondering how Personalized Search works, go checkout this week’s +Moz Whiteboard Friday!

Rand puts it in simple terms that most anyone can understand, so you do not need to be an SEO expert to get an idea as to how you might be affected by personalized search.

You can also learn how to benefit with personalized search!

http://moz.com/blog/perform-better-in-a-personalized-world-whiteboard-friday
Search results don't show up the same way for everyone, and in today's Whiteboard Friday, Rand covers five ways in which we can improve our sites' performance in an increasingly personalized world.

This is a great video if you are like me and confused about using LinkedIn. I had no idea what company pages were or who should us them.

Heck there is even something called Showcase pages…Who Knew?

I think I avoid LinkedIn because it seems like just a less user friendly place or people to “gather targets”. But, those who are trying to sell by pushing to the connections of their personal profile are doing it wrong.

Watch this so you aren’t labeled a “do wronger”. ;-}

Thanks for showing all the "must haves" of Windows 10.

I am the odd ball and like Windows 8 for the most part. I REALLY like hitting the windows key and getting the apps page or just type and search.

In Windows 10, I do not want a search bar on the bottom bar...I prefer only tings I have open to be there...I hate freakin clutter in my work area.

The tablet mode would screw me up...I'd be like "Oh shit stuff is moving...make it stop." I'm old and slow...Keep it simple for us stupid people!

I do wonder if some programs will work better with 10 than they do 8. I have had hell with mics on 8. A few other hardware and software things I have just traded out or worked around. Kind of think 10 will have the same problems though (not happy face).

Well, I will wait and see how you get along with it. I am usually one that loves trying out the beta things, but damn it can screw up to many things and I can't afford the down time to cuss at my PC.

Then why do you like windows 8?? Its the most convoluted windows Ive ever used. Things take 2 to 3 times as long to do in 8 than it does in 7, thing are hidden, you have to go thru like 3 or 4 menus to even shut it down, if your a tech guy like me, working on somebody's windows 8 pc when something is wrong is a fricken nightmare even for the most simplistic of problems.
At least 10 seems to have things in places you expect them to be. idk I havent touched it myself yet. But i most likely will upgrade to it when its fully released. But windows 8...ugh. Even my 60+ year old mother, who has a windows 8 laptop, can see just how bad the OS is. lol

Many internet marketing guru’s teach the idea of reciprocity for sales. They say give people a little something and then they feel like paying back and buying.

The problem here is that so many try to immediately connect the giving with the sale. You go to a webinar or HoA and the person gives you a tiny tidbit of info that is near useless unless you buy their product to implement it.

Or they give so little info that you feel like they have wasted your time rather than be helpful.

Then we have those that sell before they have given.

All of these things come off as they EXPECT you to give to them and I don’t think that it works well when you expect it.
