Digging a tunnel. Writing about making my way through the darkness. Cliched but true! #acwri #phdchat #phdlife

I’ve been writing and writing and wondering when it’ll end. It doesn’t, it won’t, but there’s always good reason to pause for thinking, re-reading, and letting go. Just when I thought I was going down the path of one idea (that is, providing an…

Productivity Moment by Moment

It has become clear to me that pursuing full-time academic or research work revolved around writing. There’s thinking, reading, musing, but writing is the central activity that binds all the activities of scholarship and knowledge finding and creation… #phdchat   #acwri

The more we get together, the happier we'll be

The UK-style phd program can lead to an isolating experience with the phd student engaged in solo acts of reading and writing. Having study groups may fill that lonely gap, but how can this be done?

Join us for a free online professional development session, “Copyright and Educators: Do the Right Thing”, part of TESOL’s Electronic Village Online (EVO) 2015.  Registration for the session will take place from January 5 - January 11, 2015, and the session begins on January 12 and continue until February 15.

Our team is made up of fellow alumni from the +USC Rossier  Master of Arts in Teaching (TESOL) program and we look forward to sharing and learning together with you about the principles of copyright and fair use with regard to creating lesson materials. We'll reflect on our current practices when developing lesson materials, explore public domain and creative commons resources, and learn how to manage such resources responsibly.  Finally, participants will share their copyright compliant activities or lesson plans with one another, and provide and reflect on constructive feedback.

My love-hate relationship with writing deadlines #acwri #phdchat #phdlife

I can’t write without them. I mean thoughtful, focused writing when your mind could wander off on another theory, another concept, another methodology. I can’t think without them. I mean fast and furious thinking to complete paragraphs of thought…
