Recent events have spawned activist groups such as Black Lives Matter, a social justice group determined to bring attention to inequality, police brutality and racism,

Jonathan Thompson, executive director of the National Sheriff’s Association, said he has had many discussions with sheriffs across the country who have said departments are seeing significantly fewer applications as a result of low morale and the current focus on police misconduct.

But to LEO's the positives still outweigh the negatives. The increased media attention on police misconduct has only reinforced the idea of what the job would be like – dangerous and difficult.
However, some union officials and experts have said increased police scrutiny in the U.S. has damaged recruiting.

Have you signed up for our latest webinar? The National Sheriffs' Association will be hosting a virtual event explaining the use of the Hero911 Network.

In brief, the Hero911 app will help protect children and adults against the horrific violence in active shooter incidents. This is accomplished through a constant stream of communication, updating officers around the country on a moment’s notice when school shooting incidents have been reported.

Spread the Word: Stand With Law Enforcement - Wear and Display BLUE
Join us tomorrow, FRIDAY, Feb. 12, 1PM EDT.
We encourage all LEO, first responders, supporters and citizens to please Wear and Display Blue this FRIDAY – and join us in a moment of silence to honor and remember the sacrifice of our fallen deputies and officers at 1PM EDT.
The senseless killing of four law enforcement officers just this week – on the heels of the anti-police “entertainment” at the Sunday Super Bowl halftime show – reminds us that the men and women in law enforcement take a solemn oath that includes putting their lives on the line every day to protect our citizens.

The National Sheriff's Association CEO and executive director, Jonathan Thompson, has called on the President to stop the removal of surplus military equipment from communities and return equipment already taken.

Jonathan Thompson said today at least 12 sheriff's offices have had equipment seized by the federal government because it might "intimidate local residents."

The National Sheriffs' Association has created a map of where equipment restrictions have occurred. To view the map click on the link below.

Two men who attempted to flee from California police Friday needed to be rescued from the snow Saturday morning.

The fugitives feared they would "freeze to death" said Lt. Chris Stoops, a spokesman for the Department of Fish and Wildlife.

“I have never seen two people happier to go to jail,” said Lieutenant Jim Byers of the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office.
Two men who ran from police into the freezing wilderness later called 911 and begged to be rescued.
