Story
Tagline
Dark urban fantasy author, developmental editor, drinker of absinthe, and shadow dancer ;-)
Introduction
I’m a passionate writer who happens to be lucky enough to call the beautiful city of Prague home. I enjoy nothing more than cavorting with my muse and exploring this amazing city. My writing is my addiction, collecting words and carefully caressing them until they form captivating stories is my drive. I have a particular fascination with the darker strains of fiction, the shadows whisper seductively in my ear and sociopathic protagonists whisper sweet nothings. Who am I to ignore such delightful, exquisite callings?

I fulfil a number of roles and thoroughly enjoy a number of different jobs and positions, including (but not limited to):
I released my début novel Wyrd Calling on Amazon in November 2014. Wyrd Calling is the first in the dark urban fantasy Wyrd Bound series. It sat in the top 10 for werewolves and shifters for quite a few weeks, and top 50 in Norse fantasy for an equally long time.

Blurb:
In the streets of the city, someone or something is killing sirens, and the Wyrd Sisters want it stopped.

They send their bound creation Thalia, the wild-child shifter, to track the killer down. Thalia would much rather be making a quick buck or playing with the fae, but bound is bound and Thalia must turn her new pack of shifters into an effective team to try and stop the killings. Time is as short as Thalia's temper. Can she make her pack work together and find the killer, or will the killer find her first?

Wyrd Calling: Dark urban fantasy just shifted.

Outside of the written word I have a thing for journals, post-its, chocolate, coffee, scotch, and travel. Oh and psychology, sociology, theology, myths and legends, horses, dogs, you get the picture ;-) I love to think, talk, discuss, and I'm far from afraid to air my opinions.
Bragging rights
Wyrd Calling sat next to Anne Rice in the rankings for a little while. I trained 3 national champions (dogs) by the age of 19. Broke in 2 horses entirely bareback. Jumped a 12.2h pony round courses of 4ft.

Pinned introduction post

Who am I?

I'm obsessed with shifters, infatuated with fae, and madly in love with psychology. I'm an indie author of dark urban fantasy (Wyrd Calling is on Amazon, Feathered Touch to be published July 31st 2015), developmental editor, copywriter, and English expat in the beautiful city of Prague.

I'm a passionate, stubborn, workaholic with aphasia who loves a good challenge and refuses to give up no matter how many times I crumble. Away from writing and words, I adore horses (I was a riding instructor), dogs (I was a dog trainer), walking, and exploring new things.

Curiosity may well be the death of me, eventually, but at least I'll die doing what I love - finding answers and digging up new things! You can find me on Twitter @Shen_Hart

You can find my books on Amazon:

Feathered Touch (Link to come in mid-July).

For those who're curious (I've seen signs of a couple of people trying to look) - the side-project name is in no way connected to this name. :) I'm not dumb... ;-)

Insomnia is not where you can't get to sleep for 30 minutes twice a month. This, that I'm dealing with right now, this debilitating BS, is insomnia. Staying up for 24 hours straight because you can't sleep, no matter how much you meditate or take muscle relaxers or prescription sleeping pills. Then sleeping for 4 hours, and doing it all over again. This right here, is insomnia.

Waking up after 4 hours and not being able to go back to sleep is the worst. Even being awake 40 hours was better than that.

When that happened to me it was due to a particular medication putting me in my late sleep /dream cycle at the beginning of sleep.

In fact each type of insomnia I described was due to a different medication.

Feel free to message me in private for ideas. I know a lot about supplements and have tried a few sleep drugs.

It looks like the 4th of July celebrations here were done last night, and before sunset today. I guess they were too excited and just couldn't wait. Ah well. Here's hoping for a peaceful night of 16 hours of sleep :D

Apparently I'm having 'Barbecues are happy' sausages for dinner. Thank you Google translate, fantastic as ever.

Or possibly firefighting sausages... translate is not helping here.

This is the level of aphasia I'm at today (due to lack of sleep) - I was describing my chemistry classes to Blue Eyes, and referred to the safety area bit as "the explosion box". Nope. Still can't remember the proper term.

This bout of insomnia means I can't work at the moment <grumbles> so I've been reading. I think I've been through 5 books, and started some 4 more. I had the pleasure of finishing +S. A. Hunt's Malus Domestica yesterday - check out his other books if you want a great read. (http://www.amazon.com/S.-A.-Hunt/e/B00BJODGKW)

I'm now back out tracking down more books to devour until I sleep and can work again. Yay for forced vacation?

I tried to say yesterday/last night but I suspect sleep deprivation killed said attempt.

It's very tight, and King's influence definitely shines through (far from an insult). It's clearly the first in a series, but that's because you have so much left to say - again, a great thing. You know the world is well done, the pacing's beautifully crafted, it's as I said in private. :)

People are verging on hysteria over this whole KU thing where Amazon will pay us 1/2 cent per page.

First of all, we don't know what they're going to pay. Someone did some maths based on the info we were given, that doesn't mean we know what the payout will be for this month.

Secondly, as demonstrated by Hugh Howey in his blog post, 1/2 cent per page will not screw authors over. It will still mean indies, on average, assuming the book was read in its entirety, earn more than your average traditionally published author would on a paperback.

So it's looking like this whole, staying up for 24 hours straight and not really sleeping is becoming a thing. I hate my body.

Well I was up for 24, then asleep for 4, then up for 24, asleep for 5.

I'm trying to pass out more reguarly but I just can't.

As usual, Hugh Howey talks sense.
Some more thinking-out-loud about subscription service models and the book industry. I’ve blogged about this numerous times in the past, but years go by and your thought process changes and more data rolls in. This was my blog post when Kindle Unlimited was unveiled. A few things I said at the time: I doubted a model like…

I'm actually primarily a thriller reader. I tend towards the theological and archaeological based ones, but I enjoyed Chrichton for a long time too. I adored Jurassic Park and Lost World. I'm currently reading an archaeological sort of one, and I'm describing this so badly...

There are some paranormal/supernatural thrillers I love too, J.F. Penn being the obvious - she's the only author I fangirl over.

So ya know. Thriller reader.
