A series of illustrated children’s books endures as a classic. Was it also the author’s attempt to come out?

Testing platform for a three wheeled holonomic robot.

I'll probably upgrade it with gears to make the wheels faster and use an EV3 instead of the NXT but it's a start...

Just need some wires and a program!

If you have a tech minded kid between the ages of 9 and 13, join us at the Kirkland Town Library for Robot Riot on Tuesdays at 6:30 beginning February 23!

Registration is required, and a $50 donation is requested to support STEAM at your local library.

So now that we're at the end of the FIRST LEGO League season, I'm thinking of writing up a simplified Robot Control Theory for the 9-14 year old set.

Of course, for some reason I totally skipped the whole robotics coursework at college. Anyone have good suggestions for books or open courses?

So far I've found a PDF of "Theory of Robot Control" by Carlos Canudas de Wit, Bruno Siciliano, and Georges Bastin (1st Edition)
Most of the chapters are superflouous for what goes on in FLL, but there's some good stuff on models of three wheeled robots and other goodies.

Dual sensor Line following robot for "Robot Rally"

The back wheels are just for stability (And to look like a car). The front wheels are adapted from one of the designs in The Unofficial LEGO® Technic Builder’s Guide http://sariel.pl/2012/06/my-book-available-now/
The steering and motive power are directed through the front wheels, one medium EV3 motor for steering and two large EV3 motors combined for drive power. (Driven at a 3 turns of the motor give five turns of the drive wheel)

It accelerates to a given speed, drives straight using the gyro, and decelerates for a given number of centimeters (assuming you have a variable set to translate degrees rotation to centimeters)

Trash Trek Secret Misson, you say?
With a free EV3 for the winner and precious LEGO swag? Don't mind if I do.

If people in the Utica area are looking for STEM events to spectate and participate in this weekend, there's a FIRST Lego League qualifier at Proctor High School (Opening ceremonies at 12:30, robot games going on until 3:30 ish)

There's also a FIRST Tech Challenge Scrimmage at SUNY Poly in the Student Center Multi Purpose Room from 1-4, which I'll be learning on the fly how to be a Field Tech Advisor.

FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology)is a progression of competitive robotics programs for students ages 6-18, which includes Jr FLL, FLL, FTC and FRC. FTC® (FIRST Tech Challenge) is a level for grades 7-12. During an exciting design and build period, FTC teams work ...
