I love to hike. If you do too, voting for the Florida Trail System can help my nephew receive funding to improve services for hikers.... you can vote every day. Contest ends Oct 31. Thanks...

What a perfect image of back roads in NEPA!

I thought this was a thought-provoking article. It's so easy to get caught up in the hype when we have sick friends and family members. But this makes me wonder when we will stop "the fight" for a cure, which promotes fear and powerlessness, and begin a calm, compassionate look at cancer and its cause. If cancer is a part of you, wouldn't you want to work with it instead of against it?

Breast cancer marketers and politicians have the same foundational ideology. They appeal to the part of us that wants to think we’re helping others.

Yes, a very thought provoking article. Many have expressed to me the issue of commercializing cancer and I believe it is time to think just how we spend our money and to want degree that money goes to cancer research, education, prevention and support.

The topic really starts at the 2 minute mark...about 8 min long. Wondering what healthcare providers, wellness advocates and cancer survivors think... +Dave Williams +Dr. John Cassone +Gina Costa-Goldfarb

Having not been through this, I don't have first-hand experience, and can't imagine how tough it must be to sort through all the options, +Dave Williams.

I was lucky to grow up in a home where I was encouraged to try new things. I remember the mess in our kitchen the day my friend Judy and I made Hawaiian Pineapple Coconut Cake from scratch. We sewed matching swimsuits that year too. They lasted almost the entire season before the seams began splitting. It's ok, we were only nine yrs old.

My mom nodded yes again when I asked if I could go door-to-door selling jelly jars filled with buttons I'd found while digging in the basement sewing room. I spent hours organizing them by color and size. I ended up only selling a few, but it was cool that Mom let me try.

A few months ago, on my way back from the nursing home, I saw a spaceship and a blue alien alongside the road. They took me by surprise. How odd to see them in someone's front yard. Then it occurred to me... somewhere closeby, there was another lucky kid. I wondered how far that child had traveled. Now I think about it every time I pass by.

Being creative is like nothing else. It makes you feel capable, confident. You become absorbed in a world where possibility obliterates doubt. This requires some kind of recognition. I'm not sure what to call it, but today I'm celebrating button-filled jelly jars, space ships, blue aliens, and nodding moms.
