The "auto display the API docs for the thing I'm using" is genius. Dart +Dart  Pad is a really easy way to explore +Dart code. https://dartpad.dartlang.org

Cheers to +Kasper Peulen +Luke Church and +Devon Carew on the new release.

We are finally on the cusp of an Internet of Things. As such, there are a lot of design questions that are coming up. This looks like a useful resource.

How the "There's an app for that" mentality leads to bad design:
Author and designer Golden Krishna believes that we’re quickly becoming a society that’s obsessed with our screens, and that the companies making and marketing apps aren’t doing us any favors.

Made it through section 4c of the #devstudyjam  for Android development tonight!

Funny story: I spent 8 years at IBM Software Group contributing to the development of a relational database, so when I hit section 4 and saw a few bits of SQL and SQLite I thought "Oh, SQL, this is going to be a piece of cake!".

HAHAHAHA. No. There are abstraction layers on top of abstraction layers that you need to understand to develop effectively for Android. It's frustratingly complex, but makes sense for smooth UI integration, all at the same time. Having been through it all once now in depth, rather than just dipping my toes in and out by contributing patches here and there, I'm wayyyy better prepared to tussle with this monster of data contracts, content providers, and loaders next time around :)

Looking forward to meeting up with my +GDG Sudbury friends tomorrow to share war stories!

Carbon3D unveiled a new 3D printing process which is anywhere from 25 to 100 times faster than what's available on the market today. The technology is called Continuous Liquid Interface Production (CLIP) works by harnessing the power of light and oxygen to cure a photosensitive resin. "Instead of printing an object layer-by-layer, which leads to incredibly slow speeds as well as a weak overall structure similar to that of shale, this new process harnesses light as a way to cure the resin, and oxygen as an inhibiting agent, to print in true 3-dimensional fashion."

"The machine is able to control the exact amount of oxygen and when that oxygen is permitted into the resin pool. The oxygen thus acts to inhibit the resin from curing in certain areas as the light cures those areas not exposed to the oxygen. Thus the oxygen is able to create a 'dead zone within the resin which is as small as tens of microns thick (about the diameter of 2-3 red blood cells)."
In what may be one of the biggest stories we have covered this year, a new company, Carbon3D has just emerged out of stealth mode, unveiling an entirely new bre

Some of the best cocktails in SF. My favorites are the Mt. Tam (Gin, Gran Classico, Kina l’Avion, Sweet Vermouth) and Double Date (Date-infused Rye, Whisky, Sweet Vermouth, Amaro, Cinnamon Bitters). I don't like sweet cocktails so I was skeptical about the date-infused rye but it was amazingly well-balanced with just the right amount of cinnamon bitters. The jerky is really good too. I liked the pineapple/jalapeno jerky and the Jamaican jerk spice jerky even though it could have been a bit spicier.
