Bushwick Collective Street Art, Brooklyn #NYC #sony #sonya7
Last week, I spent an hour wandering around Bushwick checking out newish pieces by the Bushwick Collective. The Bushwick Collective is a sanctioned street art collective curated by Joseph Ficalora. Local building owners give their permissions and some of the world's best street artists contribute gorgeous large scale pieces.  Dasic Fernandez' "Hand of Protest" in Buswick, Brooklyn Sony a7 and Olympus Zuiko 28mm f3.5 Click for a la...

Hey Missi! You can purchase lens adapters of all kinds for the a7. There is an Olympus Zuiko to Sony E mount, Nikon to Sony E Mount, Canon, Contax, and even a Leica M to Sony E-mount. Adapters are cheap; I snagged an Olympus Zuiko, a Nikon, and a Minolta adapter for my a7. None of the adapters cost more than $20 on Amazon! It's like having a whole world of lenses. :)

Loving my Sony a7 with old manual focus legacy lenses. This Minolta Rokkor lens was made in the 1960s, but looks fantastic to me - Minolta Rokkor 135mm f2.8

NYC pal DeShaun has been busy!

It's almost here

Here's what I've been up to. I've got 30 prints from +Adoramapix that I'm matting and putting into sleeves for sale on Thursday. I'll be adding to that an assortment of small, mobile photography pieces. I've already got framed pieces that are ready to go, and a small 8x8 book, also from Adoramapix, to feature my concert work.

Business cards are ready, lighting is ready, and I'm (mostly) ready to go. I want to make this last show special, so I hope you'll come have fun with me. Tickets available here: http://goo.gl/WxGPNp

The last weekend of Kara Walker's "A Subtlety" at Williamsburg's Domino Sugar Factory snuck up on me. Since seeing her amazing exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum a few years ago, her name has always meant a must visit for us.  You've most likely seen images online of the gigantic female Sphinx made of sugar and the smaller boys/attendants surrounding her throughout the massive Domino Sugar storage shed. These images don't prepare you for...

hey guys - there is something more for +Darren Duncan from me: do not trust the default level settings in the default epson scanning app. Play A LOT with it. It worth it. I use V750 and I am very satisfied with the quality of scanning with default Epson app. This one went quite well: https://plus.google.com/109612343963278791282/posts/fzEyLFxX8uc
But without playing with levels and contrast it would be more contrasty with lack of detail in shadows and especially in lights.

I’ve recently started volunteering for Dave Eggers’ 826 NYC. 826 NYC is a non-profit that supports kids and teens by teaching writing skills. They provide tutoring, field trips, after school workshops, and help for kids learning the English language. 826 makes their free programs fun and enjoyable, allowing students the settings and freedom to develop creativity, ideas, and ultimately, their own voice through improving their writing s...

Definitely. It's a fantastic viewfinder. Especially when you use the magnification to dial in the focus.

Last week I posted what led me, a die-hard DSLR user, to purchase the Sony a6000 mirrorless camera.  I ended the post by mentioning that the a6000 was “a game changer. I can’t remember enjoying a camera this much since falling in love with my Hasselblad years ago. “  After almost a month with the camera I still feel the same. There are some issues I have had with the a6000, but it’s easy to develop workarounds. No camera is perfect. ...

About a year ago, I discovered that you can buy a box of 100 8x10 Medical X-Ray film sheets of for $35 a box. Compare that to a 10 sheets of Kodak Tri-X for $76 and it looks like an amazing deal. Sure, it took some research and testing to discover how to shoot and develop green sensitive x-ray film, but for 35 cents a sheet I think I can afford to experiment. And really isn't that one of the fun things about photography and art? Get y...

I don't do this very often, but am selling a number of prints in my Etsy store. Some multiples and some one of a kind prints. All taken with my Hasselblad, my 4x5, or 35mm film cameras. Thanks for checking it out!

The Megapixel Race Was Won Decades Ago. Camera manufacturers will continue to play catch up with film.
Mega Glass in Park Slope, Brooklyn is a neighborhood fixture on our block. It’s the place that hand cut two special pieces of mirrored shelving over their lunch break one day for me because I wanted to surprise Kate. It’s also the place I get glass cut to order to make prints or to line the bottom of my developing trays. There's something to be said for realizing you need two thick 8x10 sheets of glass with smoothed corners and being ...

I'm a photographer who shoots medium format and large format film. I live and work in Brooklyn.
Introduction
I'm a Brooklyn based photographer who uses medium format (Hasselblad 501cm) and large format ( 8x10 Eastman View Camera #2D) film cameras. I also develop my own film.
Bragging rights
I use old cameras to take pictures on film. I also use a DSLR, but if something is important to me and I have the opportunity, I'll shoot it on film. The film pictures have more depth and feeling to me and I like to get my hands wet. I develop, scan, and contact print my own images.
