Remember that the political winds are always shifting, so learn the real facts and work for what you believe in.

First we lost AIM back in December, and now Yahoo Messenger is not long for this world ...

At least ICQ is still alive and kicking ...

As someone who has dealt with embedding (OnlyOffice / TinyMCE), extending (Microsoft Word / Google Docs) and dealing with the output of (OOXML / MarkDown / HTML / PDF) text editors at work, this was an interesting read.

I'm all for Chicago's recent skyscraper boom. That said, the glass and steel one proposed for the lot next to the neo-Gothic Tribune Tower makes me wonder if we're missing an opportunity to turn the city into the best gargoyle-adorned, Tim Burton-imagined Gotham it could be.

Random thoughts of the night ...

1) I miss the guy who, when I started working downtown, used to hand out RedEye newspapers by the Adams Street entrance of Union Station. He said everybody was on the "home team" and his enthusiasm always put a smile on my face in the morning.

2) I fully support the vegetarian lifestyle if that's your thing, but something about White Castle offering fake-meat Impossible burgers seems ... a little too on the nose? And I say this as someone who served late-night sliders at my wedding!

3) Some days I miss college. The lack of responsibility was nice, but I think it's more the full-time immersion in learning. "Real life" experiences are equally important, to be sure, but there was something special about that time.

A long talk, but a really interesting perspective on software tools.

"If we're writing our code on a computer, why are we simulating what a computer would do, in our head? Why doesn't the computer just do it, and show us?"

Took the train to the office today, found out there was no internet and the servers were off on account of broken A/C in the server closet, then took the train back home. Now my AT&T internet just went down for more than 30 minutes. Apparently I was not meant to work today ...

I've really enjoyed the throw-back Simpsons references this season - the power plant softball team, the monorail, the Pin Pals, Jon Lovitz reprising Artie Ziff, Leon Kompowsky aka White Michael Jackson. Good times.
