I do think that if the freelance model for employment becomes the norm it will make the economy more volatile. The whole cycle of investment, production, and consumption will respond quicker to changes in an on-demand economy. Consumers will be less likely to make purchases when their incomes are much less stable; production will only respond when a sufficient demand is there; and businesses are more unlikely to invest when future demand is uncertain.
