Hear from journalists who covered Occupy Hong Kong in a Google Hangout on Sunday at 7a Pacific / 10a Eastern / 10p HK

Umbrellas defending from tear gas. Songs of freedom echoing in rainstorms. Tent cities springing up.  Smartphone lights dancing in the air. These are the sights and sounds of Hong Kong's pro-democracy protests that have gripped this city for more than half a month. Media coverage has come fast and furious but how fair and how well have the protests been covered? What questions still must be asked?

Join AAJA Asia for an online discussion on Google Hangout with local, on-the-ground journalists covering Hong Kong's unprecedented pro-democracy protests:

Speakers:
- Erik MAK Ka Wai, Producer, Presenter, Public and Current Affairs Section, Radio Television Hong Kong
- Leon Lee, Web Editor, Young Post, South China Morning Post
- Shirley Yam, Vice-chairperson, Hong Kong Journalists Association

Host
- Zela Chin, Senior Producer/Reporter, News & Information Services, Television Broadcasts
This Hangout On Air is hosted by Asian American Journalists Assocation. The live video broadcast will begin soon.

I'm a boomer, and believe me, I had jobs after my first college degree that did not require that degree!  I started out with a degree in Spanish and German, and I went to work as a safety deposit clerk at a bank.  This was in 1976!   I do remember that many math teachers ended up in Australia for a while (no teaching jobs).  I would say that some things NEVER change!  My second degree was in computer science, and yes, I did get a job in that field immediately after graduation.

Meanwhile, my daughter just completed her degree in Mechanical Engineering (2014), and she has a good job in her field, but she took a job back East.  My daughter had an internship in her field last summer (paid), and it definitely contributed to her getting her job.  My advice for her was that she pursue the best opportunity, and not look behind her.
